International Co-operation Minister Julian Fantino is defending the way Canada hands out money for development projects abroad.
He’s under fire in the House of Commons following a Canadian Press report that funding went to an evangelical group that has described homosexuality as a perversion.
Ontario-based Crossroads Christian Communications, which produces television programs, received $544,813 in federal money to help dig wells, build latrines and promote hygiene awareness in Uganda through 2014.
Uganda has been shaken by virulent homophobia in the past and Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird has condemned plans for an anti-gay bill there that could potentially include the death penalty for homosexuals.
Crossroads recently described homosexuality as a perversion and a sin on its website, although the post disappeared after the group was contacted about it.
Fantino tells the Commons that projects are financed based on results, not religion.

There must be other groups that do just as good work that Crossroads Christian Communications does who doesn't promote hatred against gays.

One would think that these ‘intelligent’ politicians would check up on who they give money to, before handing it out. But then again, reading Fantino’s resume, I wouldn’t be surprised at all that he knew.
Crossroads Christian Communications is also not a poor organization by any measure. Until Tuesday, the organization's website carried a list of "sexual sins" deemed to be "perversion" and gays and lesbians were on the list. I checked there website tonight and it seems to be ‘Out of Service’….probably to change some ‘wording’. They don’t need the money, but they must have ‘connections’.
Religion teaches these people in Uganda to hate…..it teaches people to hate everywhere it goes.
We use to have a poster on here. A good guy. He went to Africa on a regular basis where he would buy items made by people and sell them over here for them. Mostly it was fabrics and I think beaded items. He was also an openly gay man. If my memory serves me correctly it was Uganda he went to and his life was at risk every time he went there. Crossroads preaching wasn’t making life any safer.

Isn't Fantino the guy who ordered ywo-tier policing in Caledonia.
Uphold the Law for whites and let Indians detroy private property and theaten others with bodily harm. The Indians were allowed to use firearms to intimidate people with no fear of punishment.

As am I, (a Christian; the horror) and have contributed financially in the past to his charity organization. Perhaps others here have done, or continue to do so as as well.
Never had any difficulty carrying on a conversation with the fellow, who is articulate and intelligent. He never started an off-eBay Discussion Board to threaten and belittle people here either, when viewpoints were presented that differed with his.
btw. I think digging wells, constructing latrines, and promoting hygiene awareness in Uganda is commendable. I understand that the religious beliefs espoused by the organization being funded to do this work are a source of consternation to some here, to which I say: awwww. Isn't that just toooo bad.

Bottomfeeders get the silent treatment. Kinda ludicrous to think that questions will be entertained by me when the turnip spews hatred on his wharf. Who are we kidding here?
As long as the wells and latrines are properly and efficiently constructed, and hygiene awareness is promoted, I don't care if the organization doing the work believes that little green men live on Mars, or whatever.
The Ugandan government's decisions / decrees re. alternative lifestyles and marriage is no different from that of many Muslim countries. Just the way it goes. And I have every expectation that Uganda will evolve much quicker than those other countries.

Christians made up about 84% of Uganda's population. The Roman Catholic Church has the largest number of adherents (41.9%), followed by the Anglican Church of Uganda (35.9%). Evangelical and Pentecostal churches claim the rest of the Christian population. The next most reported religion of Uganda is Islam, with Muslims representing only 12% of the population.
Uganda is NOT Muslim……….it is Christian based.

Who said that Uganda was a Muslim country???
The persecution of gays is brutal in some Muslim countries.
Do some of that famous "research", LOL.
I am saying that I think Uganda will embrace a Live and let Live position decades ahead of other countries with similar discriminatory practices.

Post 9: The Ugandan government's decisions / decrees re. alternative lifestyles and marriage is no different from that of many Muslim countries.
No need to bring up Muslims.....they weren't in the discussion. The reason you did was because you thought Uganda was Muslim and then after my post .........well lets just say that bike you have has more reverse than forward.

:^O
I knew Uganda was not a Muslim country before the turnip cold locate Uganda on a map.
Yonatan Netnyahu knew that as well.

Yonatan Netanyahu
en.wikipedia.org
Yonatan "Yoni" Netanyahu, was the assault commander of the elite Israeli army commando unit Sayeret Matkal. He was the only Israeli soldier killed in action during Operation Entebbe in Uganda

Um, mentioning the persecution of gays endemic in Muslim countries, compared to the current Ugandan homophobia is not suggesting Uganda is a Muslim country! Go figure! It is really not too hard for the average turnip to comprehend that fact, but one occasionally digs up a super-dense specimen.

I also don't recall praising this Christian group.
Never heard of them before, and know nothing about them.
Hope their well digging and latrine building goes well, is all, and Ugandan's lives are improved as a result.
