So I transferred my banking over from RBC to Tangerine thinking I made sure nothing was linked but forgot about eBay. Tried to simply connect my Tangerine account and was met with "bank not supported. please add another account". I dont have another account. I've spent tons of time on here browsing solutions and see as early as a few weeks ago canadians mentioning tangerine is fine. And before anyone asks:
-Yes its a chequing account
-Yes my names and addresses match exactly
-Yes its a CAD account and I'm trying to be paid in CAD

After speaking with 5 eBay payment reps 2 of them have confirmed that Tangerine is no longer a supported bank and is on a list of "unsupported routing and transit numbers". The only option I've been provided is to open a new bank account. When I asked what happens to my money if I don't I'm told "well it would sit there until you do because we can't issue it anywhere". As if I don't have a properly linked paypal or Mastercard. The other three told me that "there should be no issue". This company is the devil and I can't wait to get its greedy little claws out of me.

Yes it is my Canadian address. I never did use a US bank or address anything in the USA, just PayPal with my verified Canadian address. As others have mentioned I just have been on eBay for so long that eBay.ca didn't exist when I joined.
You would think it would be simple for eBay to verify the user as being Canadian and then allow the system to use a Canadian bank.

or just put my acccount on eBay.ca? I don't know why that's not possible anymore  (according to my last CS chat)

When  ebay switched to Managed Payments it was no longer possible to change their registration site.  I don't know why but it was obviously very shortsighted of them as people do move from country to country.

@lotzofuniquegoodies

How long did the problem take to resolve

I tried and tried to get my Simplii account back, particularly since it was working just fine for my other account and had been accepted.

But then I decided (as I often point out minimimum wage here is 25c a minute) that it was not worth the hassle and added one of our household accounts.  The argument discussions were over about two weeks but less than two hours of actual work was involved, including typing the Chats and a couple of calls one including DH about yet another MP matter.

and was the problem easy to pin point

Never did find out what the problem was, and again this was an account that had been accepted and was working for weeks.

If a seller had no choice but to open a new account they would suddenly lose their past sales history/feedback

Losing the feedback is concerning.

and be considered a new seller forcing them back into a waiting period for getting paid.

But a returning seller would have the same waiting period as any new seller, so that becomes moot.

@reallynicestamps

There have been a number of sellers that have reported that they were getting paid until they weren't. (An actual reason has never been given what was causing this to happen.) So means they had listings up and running. Then they get the runaround with changing banks. That was proceeded with the  suggestion the only alternative was to switch their eBay account to a new ca account. If they did that they would have the hassle of porting their listings over, which eBay has no streamlined simple way to do. Along with those other "perks" like losing your feedback and that waiting period for payment & increases in listings.

I am experiencing the same circular tech support insanity. Member for 23 years, and been back and forth with ebay and Simplii support all week. The ironic part is I was about to give up and open a Tangerine account to try that which led me to this post.

Can you help me get this resolved?

Just in case, you are dealing with the eBay employees on the social media Chats and not the subcontractors on the phones, right?

The Chat folks have some authority and also you get a transcript and case #.

I ended up with using  household checking account, which was not my first choice at all, after my Simplii account was suddenly not acceptable.

I would change back in a second, if only because the online bank will send my paper statements, while I have to ask the teller if I want them from my B&M bank.

The tellers are mostly very nice about it.

Been dealing with help chat agents in India. In general they are pretty good for basic problems, but this appears to be a back end problem with the older accounts (even Devon and his crew seemed confounded). I just started selling after 23 years, so never had a need to link my bank account until now.

@mephistopheles93

There are a couple of different issues in this thread being discussed.   Are you trying to sign up for Managed Payments for the first time and can't link your Simpli account? When you try to link your account is it taking you to .eBay.com or .ca?

Like you, other sellers who originally registered on .com are having a problem setting up their MP account so just checking if your problem is similar.

@mephistopheles93, it's probably not the Simpli account that's the issue in your case but, like @toontown92 , your registration is on the .com site rather than the .ca site.

What feedback you have is as a buyer, not a seller, so you may be better off just starting a new eBay account from scratch, but this time on the .ca site.

I would have considered creating a new account for selling had I known there was an issue with my legacy account, but I currently have 60 listings, $1000 in held payouts, and my feedback. This issue should really fall on ebay to fix, not their users.

Having read a number of posts on this issue, I'm pretty confident that this issue is on eBay's radar.  The problem is that this is one of a number of issues the site has right now.  In the twenty-odd years I've been using eBay, I've come to the conclusion that the original site wasn't coded all that well to start with (Remember all the times the site went down in the late 90s/early 00s?) and everything that's been added to the site (and now sites) after that has had the potential to compound problems.

I have an 80-or-so year old house that's been added onto and renovated over the years.  It looks pretty good, but it has a host of problems that would be best fixed if my family moved out of it and the place was gutted so we could start from scratch to get it functioning properly, but that's an expensive and impractical solution for us, so we have to be patient and get it done in fits and starts and not always the way we'd like it to be done.  I think the eBay sites are like that.

What eBay Canada seems to be facing now is a number of legacy users who haven't used the .ca or .com sites in some time coming back to start listing for the holiday season.  By the looks of things, they're going to have to be patient while the tech team and Adyen work out this particular issue with Managed Payments.

It's my understanding that every region has it's own server written from scratch by different people, some in different decades and probably with different programming languages. In Canada we apparently have separate French and English servers. It's frankly a miracle that all the servers work together at all. I believe this is the reason we don't have a lot of the features other regions do. eBay has to write the new code for each region from scratch as the underlying programming is all different, and we're a lower priority.

I've heard rumors that eBay may be working on a unified code stack that will handle all regions (basically an eBay 2.0). This will likely eliminate most of the issues. The rumors may be wrong though.

I just wish eBay was more upfront about the issue and more reassuring towards people instead of letting them (me) go through 3 hours of online chat help and being told to just try a different bank ..or open a new eBay account and try again.

I don’t think eBay has had much of a sense of the pervasiveness of this problem until very recently. The early adopters of Managed Payments who had this problem were probably seen as outliers and it’s likely that nobody at eBay really knew that this would actually affect a number of users.

Now that this is being seen more as a technical issue affecting more than a handful of users, the next challenges eBay faces are communicating this to frontline staff and coming up with a solution that can be applied efficiently to those affected.

Hi @mephistopheles93! I have reported the issue that yourself and others are running into to our payments team. As for now I recommend reaching out to our customer support team here and they will be able to open a direct ticket on your account if they are unable to resolve the issue.

As a Canadian Ebay seller, I am having exactly the same issues, but with CIBC, they do not recogocnize the bank. Ironically they accept the Visa that is tied to this card for payments.!

Been fighting support for over a week, no answers!
