How to buy iTunes Australia Gift Card in Canada

I live in Canada and want to buy Season 1 of "The Paleo Way", which is only available on iTunes Australia. 

I have already created an iTunes Australia acocunt. I have seen advice that I should buy an ebay voucher for foreign iTunes content. 

My PayPal is connected to ebay,  but when I try to buy the voucher, I get an error saying "To buy a gift card, you need an eBay and PayPal account." 

How do I buy an iTunes Australia gift card using a Canadian credit card?

Isn't one reason iTunes gift cards are so popular with scammers because they are convertible to cash anywhere in the world?

Wouldn't a Canadian card be useable in Australia or Germany or Nigeria?

The tricky bit might be foreign exchange.

I bought a Canadian gift card, tried to use it for my iTunes Australia account, and got a message "This code must be redeemed in the Canada storefront.
