Buyer and shipping adress are different first name

Hi.

Just did a sale today and i found that buyer name and shipping infos on ebay are not the same. They both have the same last name it might be 2 from the same family, but should i cancel that transaction or doing it? Not sure what to do there and if it's potentially a scam incomming or even someone buying without permission...

I'm especially hesitant cause i ship post canada lettermail with no tracking and i can easily loose my stuff with nothing to do. It's immediate payment, saying on ebay it's paid and to ship. In my sold items, it's wrote that buyer is ( fake names for the exemple ) bob smith, and ship it out to bob smith on the side. But i click then to see shipping infos/adress, it's wrote james smith

What should i do there? Should i ship it to james cause it's the shipping infos, cancel the transation, message ebay?

The key really is reps. Once you have shipped enough orders, you do get a kind of second sense on these. Learning how to respond to problems, and more importantly, how to head them off in the first place, are major milestones as well. Most problem customers can be traced back to something you failed to do at an earlier time.

Re: Buyer and shipping adress are different first name

We assume a 5% loss on Lettermail, but typically end up being much lower. That way, by building that cost in, I don't sweat it when it happens, and I generally always give the buyer the benefit of the doubt. The first time I read a paranoid response from a seller to a tracking inquiry I sent, I went and re-read the message templates I had created to respond to common questions, looking at them from a customers POV, and I was horrified at the general tone I had infused into them. I revised all of our communications to give the customer the benefit of the doubt, except for the ones specifically intended to be sent to individuals I am all but sure are fraudsters, and our overall CS metrics and customer retention skyrocketed.

Being scammed by a fraudster on a bad-faith order is horrible. Accusing an honest customer of theft is much worse.

@cardconnoisseurs

I think Ebay should considar removing buyer protection for trading cards sent via Lettermail IF the seller also offers a tracked shipping option. In this scenario, only sellers who do not offer tracked shipping options would be liable for buyer protection.

This is not a terrible idea. There are a few other categories, mostly one where the customer demographic overlaps the 'criminal' demographic where it would also be useful.

I think if we could leave negative feedback for buyers,

I strongly disagree.

Instead I would like to see the FB system changed to a Successful Transaction number.  If a member has successfully completed 100 transactions but there was a dispute (win or lose or resolved) on five transactions, that member would have an ST of 95%.

The idea being that in most disputes there are faults on both sides.

YMMV.

or if Ebay made it harder to create multiple accounts,

Since I have four active selling accounts, I have to disagree with that.

But I also have four active selling accounts in Managed Payments NONE of which is actually making payouts so perhaps eBay has inadvertantly solved that problem.

Re: Buyer and shipping adress are different first name

On a final note here, just to be sure at 100% cause i'll ship it tomorrow. If we have to use one name on the mail, it's the shipping adress name, not the one who paid, right?

Cause i already had the package ready, using the adress name, don't wanna rip it for nothing if it's okay

Yes, always use the ship-to (shipping) address on the envelope or parcel.
