'Can You Learn from eBay’s Tips on Reducing Returns?'

This is interesting to me ONLY because when the Returns rate first materialized on our Dashboards, we were reassured that this wasn't a metric that would be counted against us and I was assured it was not.

Lo and behold.

My thread from two years ago when that metric first appeared: https://community.ebay.ca/t5/Seller-Central/Returns-rate-in-new-Dashboard/td-p/327558/page/2

And ebay's reassurance at that time that it wasn't a form of penalty to come: https://community.ebay.ca/t5/Archive-1/February-24th-2016-Weekly-Session/m-p/327870/highlight/true#M...

To be clear, I don't disagree that a high rate of Returns may indicate a problematic seller or product but...

I guess I get miffed when I note the sky is falling but I'm told it's not, silly chicken, when it really is.

And combine this with the fact that ebay has decided they no longer want to arbitrate SNAD versus buyer's remorse returns and you quite frankly have a BS system at work. Ebay wants all the perks of being a high service level retailer without doing ANY of the work. Cads.

We have an ice storm happening here in Toronto, and for some reason the link won't load.  Nor the Weather Network.  Damned Internet.  Wish I could read the article however, as I just encouraged a customer to attempt to open up a return, assuming that this was the right and proper way of dealing with the situation.  If that's not the case we'll be going back to calling customers on the telephone to resolve issues.

HAH!!!!  I think it's a wee bit late for this helpful advice, thank you very much eBay.  Some of eBay's biggest sellers have been getting away with these kinds of shenanigans for years.   (As an aside, I see eBay is now also sending friendly email advice on how to price our items, i.e. downward.  Knaves!).

5) Make sure your product is authentic

– It is illegal to sell counterfeits, fakes, or replicas of brand name items. We don’t allow these to be sold on eBay. Please refer to our policy on counterfeit and replica items.

– Misusing brand names and keywords to manipulate search results can also result in false buyer expectations. Don’t make comparisons or reference brands that aren’t the same brand you’re selling.
