Hi all,
Check all your orders where you have used Canada Post Expedited Lite before.
You may have been mistakenly surcharged for you package because the lablel prints the same dimensions all the time (5x5x5cm). Canada Post systems thinks is the wrong size and surcharge you.
Ebay is aware (I called 5x) and they dont do anything.
They put the responsability on Canada Post.
Canada Post puts the responsability on ebay.

They do that on all shipping platforms. I use Stallion Express and they default to 5cm x 5cm x 5cm on all shipments under 1 lb that I'm not required to actually measure.
I would say if the default shipping dimensions are causing discrepencies in shipping prices, perhaps putting the dimensions in when you ship would solve that problem.

That's not what's causing the problem. Canada Post weighs and measures the boxes and if they determine it's over the maximum dimensions and/or weight then they charge eBay the difference who then charges you. The size showing as 5x5x5 has no bearing on it.
There's some question whether Canada Post may have the same volumetric cutoff as eBay does. Packages very close to the cutoff (exceeding 500g volumetric but still under the dimensions) might be causing an issue. I've gotten a few overcharges recently on it too.

I always print an additional info label (see the photo), so they know it's not a regular parcel. 5 x 5 x 5 cm is a standard size for Expedited Lite.

I know, but I suppose a "real" person takes a look, if something is "wrong" with a parcel.
I handled several returns, and some of them had personal pen notes from post office staff.

More of a problem eBay and CP not getting their ducks in a row and calling the parcel EXPEDITED LITE # when the service became a thing. Not Expedited #2. Those shipments should be entities all on their own. It was and is a newish service. Avoids confusion. Same thing would happen when it logs the shipment within ebay labels.
Transposing the correct officially inputted measurements from the get go should have been a given. If the measurements caught that it was over the limit...if it was then service is NOT active. Lastly weight shown on label would specify weight was cubed. Lots of common services included in the past boxes for actual and dim weight in the golden age of hand written filled out bills.

There's really no reason to do all that. I've never had an expedited lite be rejected, just the occasional incorrect upcharge which is an automated process. The machine isn't going to care about the other labels. Just put the shipping label on, and if you want to add a do not bend label, there's some nice cheap ones on Amazon that are orange and really stick out.

The 5 x 5 x 5 has been an issue since the service was offered by eBay. Almost 2 year. You can enter in the correct measurements but when it prints it displays 5 x 5 x 5 cm on the label. There isn't a data field for such a note like for US labels. That can only be viewed on a scanner. There is no way to know if that scanned label shows the inputted measurements. In theory a 5 x 5 x 5 cm package would barely be large enough for a to/from and the stamp and is below accepted CP limits for a package size. You have a similar issue if you enter the weight as 1 gram.

I can almost guarantee you that no one that might handle your package or look at it would have any idea what "Expedited Lite" is. The service is a unique agreement between eBay and Canada Post and seemingly only known to the people that negotiated the deal, and the programmers/technicians in charge of handling eBay's API (and whatever software they use to re-rate parcels in transit).
There never was (and has never been) any sort of announcement to the public or employees (from Canada Post) regarding the service. There is zero mention of it on any Canada Post operations manuals/internal documents. My own Local Area Manager who oversees the entirety of retail locations in Winnipeg had never even heard of it when I brought it up to him months ago.

Doesn't CP ever do manual random audits from time to time? I believe in the past I had seen that as message when I processed labels with Shippo. They were much more transparent when it came to incorrectly (in error) entered data.

I called Canada Post 2 times for the upcharges on my Expedited Lite (I spoke with an anlayst, not a normal service rep) and he confirmed that the upcharges were because my packake was the wrong size. The note in his system, specifically says "5x5x5cm".
What ever you do the code bar on you Expedited Lite is always 5x5x5cm.
I filled 3x complaints with ebay and Canada Post.
My next step is file a complaint the Canada Post Ombousman.

I tried changing the 5x5x5cm on the label's pdf before printing it and put the real dimansions and they still upcharged me. The dimension (the wrong ones 5x5x5cm) are in the bar code and there is nothing else I can do.

Yet, I was never overcharged, so I decided to make my label even bigger and in color 🤣
And seriously, if indeed no one at CP knows, what "Expedited Lite" is, why not even one of my packages was overcharged or returned? I have no idea, how many of Expedited Lite I have shipped, but it would be surely a 3-digit number.

Again, the 5x5x5 is NOT the issue. Lots of us have been using Expedited Lite for a long time now with very few problems. If that was the cause, ALL of our expedited lite shipments would be hit by it. There does appear to be some kind of issue with packages that are VERY close to the max expedited lite dimensions. I suspect Canada Post is limiting Expedited Lite to 500g dimensional rather than the correct maximum dimensions, but I don't know for sure.

If it would be the case, the label should not print as Expedited Lite, but automatically switch to Expedited Parcel. Most of my parcels are rather very close to the limits (190 g / 39 cm). I also noticed, the EL option disappears if I play with the dimensions too long.
I think Lotz is right - CP should change the name of the service to Expedited Lite 3 (or 5, or whatever)....

Well, there is no Expedited Lite with Canada Post (as far as I know), it's just the name eBay chose for it. The parcels appear to be normal expedited. I'm pretty sure the only way to know they are special is actually the 5x5x5 deliniation, which I assume Canada Post uses for internal accounting reasons.
I suspect the problem is with Canada Post, not eBay. It's really hard to know though since we can't see what dimensions and weight Canada Post is detecting.

@38e_avenue Something should have been in place when they created that particular gremlin.
As for the variations, someone else made me confirm....
1 = Xpresspost
2 = Expedited
3 = Regular
P = Priority
IP = Intl Priority
Then variations of Registered - R
Variations of Regional/National Xpresspost/Priority Post
No real major differences noted with the different sizes of prepaid boxes.
They just get Flat Rate and a 2 = Expedited . All mine start GD ### ### ### CA but there may be other letter combos.
Deep dives...No charge. 🙂

Back in 2024 this was posted (see screenshot attached) to one of the other discussions threads regarding anyone getting mysterious upcharges for Expedited lite. It seems they create a solution...implement it and then get rid of it. In another discussion someone posted where the 5 x 5 x 5 was not showing and the correct measurements were. I think the window for that correction was a week or 2 at most. As I recall...memory bank is starting to overheat on this, I processed one that confirmed it had been fixed. Unless you ship using that service regularly, Hard to tell when or if any changes have been made or how many hours it will hang around.
Just fix it for Pete's sake!!!! This should not be rocket science!!!
