Re: Canada Post, New Pricing

My shipping costs went up about 3%. The Canadian dollar has gone down 10% in the last year. I am 7% ahead.

If a seller uses Light Packet, the rates went up about 10 to 30+% depending on the weight. So the exchange rate difference does not cover that increase.

When Lettermail/Letterpost rates increase on March 31, it will go up 10 to 30+% depending on the weight. So the exchange rate difference does not cover that.

If a seller lists in Canadian $$, then currency exchange rate is no help at all.

So some sellers get hurt if they fall into the situations described above.

There is one good change in Light Packet and that is the 100 gram limit was increased to 150 grams so if an item falls in the 101 to 150 gram range, the LP rates decreased when compared to the old/new 101-250 gram rate.

As usual, a seller has to adapt and adjust to being an eBay seller. So many things can change. Frustrating at times because of so many factors can change unexpectedly.

Re: Canada Post, New Pricing

Sellers that will be hurt the most are the ones that send out a lot of letter mail or small packet (stamps, coins, currency, jewelry and other smaller items, especially if they are lower priced) as that is where the biggest percentage increases are. Sellers that use parcels a lot as Mr. Elmwood does will only see a small increase as they do most years.

Re: Canada Post, New Pricing

Can someone explain:

Single stamps

Stamps in booklets

Metered mail

I can't see why there is a difference if you use a single stamp or booklet.

Re: Canada Post, New Pricing

It's bulk buying.

It costs the retailer the same to sell a single 85 cent item and an $8.50 booklet.

Actually it may cost slightly more in staff time and bookkeeping.

Canada Post is, in effect, giving a 15% discount for buying your stamps 'in bulk'.

They do not want single stamp sales. It is a waste of time, money, and resources. Books of stamps can be bought just about anywhere.

Letters are dead and stamps are sold to the infrequent buyer.

A couple years ago I was sending off parcels and buying $120 worth of postage. Old guy behind me, in line, wants one stamp for 63¢. He gets lippy and loudly demands to be served, how long is this gonna take, the usual. He was embarrassing everyone. I shut him up with "I'm spending $120 here, I will spend $500 this week, you are spending, what 63¢? You can wait".

What did he want? He wanted his ordinary letter weighed, measured, and personal service, for 63¢ and he was gonna have his 15 minutes of fame. Meanwhile, there were people in line trying to spend hundreds of dollars.

Guy wasn't gonna buy a book of stamps and waste the money, no, he was gonna get in line, every time, and loudly make a statement about it.

Not every customer is a valuable customer.
