Canada Post requests foreign Postal services to suspend shipments of parcels to Canada

More of an issue for buyers than seller but is effecting GSP sellers.

There have been a few threads about this since the 15th, but it is a better written news article than some I have seen.

Probably no effect on GSP sellers as Pitney Bowes does not need to use the post office system to bring the GSP stuff into Canada.

So the GSP parcels will just get backed up like the rest of them then....

PBI still has to deliver the parcels to the CPC processing hub, and CPC may not accept it.

There have been in past months and years, mentions of GSP items being delivered by CanPar and by FedEx.

These were usually accompanied by complaints, but most shipping posts are about problems, so let's let that slide.

Pitney Bowes is not required to ship by Canada Post.

Canadian Border Services are not involved in the CPO dispute.

And actually brokerage is handled by PB/GSP at the Kentucky plant in any case.

So PB/GSP could if they thought it worthwhile, switch to alternate carriers.

They may do this for bulky shipments or for high value shipments, for example, and let the $10 used tee shirt packages build up in a container in Erlanger until CPO settles.

Because couriers are more expensive than the postal system and do not cover the entire country, this would be only a temporary solution.

And PB/GSP would probably either lose money or make less money from delivering them.

What will be interesting will be to see what happens with GSP shipments that arrive late because they were held outside Canada until regular service resumes.

The postal dispute may also make some buyers aware that cheap overseas purchases that don't arrive are not all that cheap.
