I have been with Ebay since 1998. I am in Canada. Back then there was no Ebay Canada. My Registration address is a post box I have in Blain Wa. I lived near the border and often shipped from the USA. Have not lived there for years. My Country of Residency shows Canadian, my ship from address is Canada. When ebay switched to managed payments I used a RBC USA account I had in the USA.
Now ebay has held my payments until I send in a W9 form and update my idenity. I sent in a wben8 but they dont seem to even know what that is. I have tried to chaneg to my Canada bank account, no dice. I have tried to change my registrations address to Canada, will not allow be, country is greyed out.
I contacted ebay online chat. They seemed to not really know and said to close my account and open new on on ebay canada. I will lose my 6000 - 100% pos FB and my top seller rating. They just said sorry about that but thanks for your loyalty.
Has anyone else ran into this issue. Seems a bit ridiculous thier only solution is to erase 23 years of history and start new?
Mean while items are been sold and they wont pay me. I still have to ship the items I sell.

I was told by a CS rep that they are working on a solution to allow us to upload a W8 form, but no one has been able to offer an idea of when that will be possible.

Spoke to another CS rep today and was told that if I created a new account registered in Canada the payments could be transferred to that account once it was verified. So there's an answer on how to get the funds that are being held released but still no solution for how to change the registered address or upload the W8 form.

I could have my US funds sent to a Canadian account but I want to be paid in US. The double conversion will loose between 7-10%. The trouble I am having is finding a Canadian Banks that has US fund checking accounts WITH a transit number and not a routing number. The account with routing numbers are held in the US by the banks affiliates and Ebay will not recognise them. CS is totally useless.
Anyone know of a Canadian Bank that has a US dollar checking account with a transit number? Of a suitable work around?

Also replied to you on this thread but you've provided more information in your post here.
How many digits is this "routing number"? My understanding is that in Canada, what's called a routing number is the combination of the institution number and the transit number, so if these routing numbers you're looking at are eight or nine digits long, you should be able to break them up to get the institution-transit number combo you need.
I've never ordered paper cheques for the US dollar chequing account I have with Coast Capital Savings Federal Credit Union, but when I go onto the credit union's website and look up the info associated with it, it shows me the same institution and transit number as my Canadian dollar chequing account. I'm hoping that's the same information I'd see if I had paper cheques for this account.
But to make sure I'm on the same page as you, I have to ask, are you trying to open US dollar checking accounts through a US-based bank that's owned or affiliated with the Canadian banks you've been using? Those don't work for Canadian sellers using Managed Payments. The bank itself has to be located in Canada.

All the major banks have them, some credit unions offer them, mine is with Meridian.

I will give Meridian a call. All the major banks can get you a US dollar checking account, but they are all held with their US affiliates. I have several US accounts and none of them work because they have routing numbers instead of transit number. RBC/Scotia/BMO/TD...none have the required elements.
I sure miss the ease of using PayPal to deposit funds where I need them.

I don't think it matters if your bank account is Canadian or US. Here is what a customer service rep told me:
As a follow up to our conversation about providing documentation to release payments after tax number verification, you have the following options to provide us with documents:
Option 1: Complete a Form W-8 certifying that you are a non-US person. If your eBay account has a US address or you use a US bank account, you will also need to provide documentary evidence of your non-US status (e.g., a copy of your non-US passport) and a written explanation for why a US address and/or US bank account was used (e.g., the US mailing address provided is a PO box or warehouse and is not tied to a US residence).
You will also need to include a copy of your identification, along with proof of a foreign address.
Please see links below for the most commonly used Form W-8s below:
Form W-8BEN (for individuals)
Form W-8BEN-E (for entities)
The Form W-8 and associated documentation may be mailed to eBay at the following address:
eBay Commerce Inc.,
Attn: eBay Tax Department, W-8 Processing
2145 Hamilton Avenue
San Jose, CA 95125
USA
Option 2: If you are qualified, apply for a US Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (“ITIN”). The process generally takes around 7 weeks. Please visit the IRS website for additional information and to determine if you qualify for an ITIN.
Once you receive your ITIN, you may submit the ITIN for verification via the payout hold banner.

That is an interesting suggestion I have been thinking.
How can we as Canadians get ITIN? I dont mind selling on ebay USA and report/pay taxes in the US. We have double taxation treaty.
But it's crazy - to get the ITIN you have to fill out the tax return form, which I dont know how to get.
Any ideas?
Anyone done that?

Did you try to get the ITIN?
W-9 is fine, where to get the additional supporting documents? like a 1040 tax return?

Hello
You are saying that I cannot use USD Canadian bank account to accept payments in USD on ebay?
Why does ebay have daily payouts in USD and CAD for Canadians if that is not possible?
What is the solution to get funds in USD for Canadian?
thanks

Did you find any solution?
05-10-2022 04:50 AM
Very interesting.
DId you try any of the options?
So basically if we cannot get ITIN we can just fill W-8 form send it to ebay and work on ebay.com as the US non resident, and get the funds transferred daily to US bank account with no issues.
Do I understand correctly?

Did this get resolved? I can't access my account, and I never used a US address. My account was created in March 1999 on ebay.com (predating .ca being a thing). I am told to start over using a new account with zero feedback. THEY WILL NOT TRANSFER MY USERNAME OR FEEDBACK!
Every rep I spoke to thinks I should use a time machine to go into the future and register at ebay.ca. 🙂
I deal only in C$, so getting a US bank account and converting my C$ transactions to US$ then converting back is not a viable option.

There are a few different issues mentioned in the thread so can you please be more specific as to what problem you're having? It looks like you are registered on Canada?
Also, it would be best to start a new thread as they often close older threads.

ZOMBIE THREAD FROM JANUARY 2022
The problem with zombie threads is that the advice may be out of date and no longer applicable.
A Canadian account opened in 2021, should not have been able to be open on dotCOM which was the original problem.
