I live in a city residental area that has 5 day home delivery service>>>I for one have NO NEED for a 5 day home delivery of "Mostly" junk mail>>2xs per week would be quite adequate for me OR set me up with a community lock box. Yes I realize a goodly portion of the Canadian population "could not bear" to have a reduction of home delivery but I see it as a complete waste of $.
The sooner CP deals with the overload of debt, the better it will be...just my 2c worth.

Bring back the reliabilty/affordability and more people would use. I've had letter envelops take 7 days to go across town. And if more were to use....more profits to pay off that debt. As of late see wayyyyyyyy too many folks attempting to use and getting major sticker shock at the checkout to send a small parcel from A to B or across town.

I saw this. The same thing is going on in the United States. I agree we may see reductions or changes to home delivery. Wouldn't once a week delivery have a terrible impact on the work from home trend?
Years ago there was talk about implementing communtiy mail boxes for all of Canada. That motion was defeated. Maybe they should take another look at that instead of changing the schedule of delivery.
With respect to the comment on junk mail, isn't that a huge part of Canada Posts revenue?
I see three main considerations.

Huh?

I don't want to spread fake news but in the news report I thought that was mentioned. Give me a bit of time to recheck what was said...

Purolator is owned by Canada Post; CP does not own UPS

@recped My mistake. Canada Post owns Purolator not UPS which is owned by TFI International.
here's some more info;
Purolator is an international courier and logistics provider that operates principally in Canada and the United States. Vehicles3,916 Courier vehicles 203 Straight trucks 1,086 Trailers 542 Tractors 14 E-bikes cargo box 5 Electric vehicles 16 E-bikes 2 Low-speed vehicle
Apparently they have 16 E-bikes too! haha

TFI does not own UPS either! TFI bought out UPS Freight which was a relatively tiny division of UPS.

RE: Topic "Current state of Canada Post"
Thanks @recped
I corrected my error to Purolator within a few minutes of posting it (05-28-2024 02:06 PM) "Correction: Canada Post owns Purolator not UPS "
the point was Canada Post has experience owning a package courier and should be able to figure out how to compete. It really makes no difference who owns UPS. Not sure what the fuss is about.

I have delivery to a super mailbox in the suburbs and think that delivery is already a de facto few days a week, vs. 5 days. We don't get too much regular mail, but it seems to be on a definite pattern over the last couple of years.
No problem for me dropping mail to 2-3 times per week. Most people with super mailboxes do not check them every day unless they are expecting something.

This is all that is...
They want to turn all posties into temp/part-time positions
They want to gut white-collar positions
They want to Automate as much as possible
They want to end all foot routes
They want to reduce the delivery of house mail to once or twice a week
They want to push out all long-term workers...
I could include a few more, but as I have postie friends I will abstain...
