A buyer bought a hockey card from me and paid right away. He then emailed me and asked that I send the card to a friend's address.
I wouldn't have a tracking number either way, Does anyone here send to addresses not listed in the paypal transaction? Thanks.

If you were willing to ship it without tracking to the original address it makes no difference if you ship to a different address. Either way you aren't covered in case of a INR.

Vintagenorth is right about coverage but your buyer should add his friend's name to his PP account, even if just for this one transaction.
These are called 'gift addresses' because: gifts.
First, it makes him think about what he is doing. Slowing down the flakes, basically.
Second, it makes him realize that you did not just fall off the turnip truck, but have some idea of how online selling works.
Since you are an experienced seller, I won't bore you with my usual spiel about Cookie Jar Insurance.

your buyer should add his friend's name to his PP account, even if just for this one transaction.
Why? If the item has been paid for already the buyer cannot change the address. Unless the seller is going to refund and then ask
the buyer to pay again, it's a waste of time to add the address. If you told me to add the address and I knew it wouldn't do any good, I might think that you are quite familiar with that turnip truck.

If it was your Reg Fleming card (estimated sales price of $20?), I would just send it to his friend's address. Period.
As you mentioned, it isn't going with tracking so, IF your buyer has scamming ways, it wouldn't really matter where you sent it.
Would it?

I know you are not covered, but I always ship to a different address if they request it - have done it several times.
So far I have had happy buyers due to this and never got burned but I guess I am playing with fire
I have even had people living in foreign countries purchase and want to send it to a Canadian relative - again, I am easygoing about it and am willing to do so. BUT you definitely are not covered should something go wrong. It is just a chance/risk that I take in the name of better customer service.
cheers

Hi! Sorry, just re-read and saw that it is untracked anyways - yes go for it, as either way it is the same thing - not covered, and I am sure it will be just fine. The buyer will be thankful!

Done it many times no problems.
Even same situation as alycat, overseas guy having me send it to his brother who was travelling in Canada! (Took 3 tries to figure an address out that the brother was at long enough to ensure it got there in time..... and it worked out AOK.)
