But...but....but you could sell everything at or below cost and make it up in volume! Profits are so overrated.

I assumed this feature was coming now that they have ran out of national retailers who create ebay stores under pseudonyms to dump all their over forecasted inventory. There are only so many Chinese factories you can pay to create knockoff merchandise as well. Declining sales of fidget spinners certainly haven't helped either.

You can certainly tell that the exec team is trying to get hired on at Uber based on the business philosophy they are espousing. A confusing one it as well, whining that they are viewed as a flea market and then doing everything they can to one up the flea market model.

Re: Ebay might introduce new feature

It appears eBay is figuring out how to optimize "Best Offer" for its new "catalog" approach, where shoppers are shown product pages instead of listings, for certain categories.
To summarize: a buyer can initiate an offer that is sent to multiple sellers. "All catalog sellers get to see that offer and/or gets auto accepted or rejected based on sellers account settings," the attendee explained.
"If you list an item that has a pending offer you would get alerted of the pending offer and could accept the offer instead of listing."

Sound more like a trial balloon than anything else.

Wearing my hat as a BUYER rather than as a Seller, converting best offer into a MERV bomb is exceedingly stupid.
It assumes the buyer is willing to buy from any seller,
it ignores that listings can have different shipping costs,
it ignores the different shipping methods (GSP anyone?)
it ignores delivery times

Also will ebay do this only for "new" or is any item grade going to be lumped together...

Instead of dumb method like this, the best way to help the bargaining buyer is to add an option to only see sellers who accept offers for that catalog item.

Yep. Starting with squeezing book and music sellers because that makes soooooooo much sense given the downward price pressure on a commodity category that is further challenged by cheap electronic distribution. I guess certain execs don't like these "flea market" categories. I noticed handbags haven't gone up. laughing

Only fee increases I see in the fall update are for Reserve Price, Subtitle and Value Pack options -- nothing that targets book and music sellers.

Looks like it is either US specific or the Canadian side won't or hasn't implemented it yet.  Here is the change below. I would expect to see them raise fees across multiple categories in coming updates since user growth is far below competitors.

Starting September 15, 2018, the final value fees for Books, and DVDs & Movies categories will increase from 9.15% to 12% for Store subscribers and from 10% to 12% for non-Store sellers.Starting September 15, 2018, the final value fees for the Music category will also increase from 9.15% to 12% for both Store subscribers and non-Store sellers, with the exception of the Records category, which will remain at 9.15% for Store subscribers and 10% for non-Store sellers.

The above fee increases applies to listings on .COM... NOT on .CA.

Re: Ebay might introduce new feature

That will be short lived,, what about seller's who list on both sites, they will have 2 different final value fees.. Perhaps they want all the usa seller's to move to the Canada market, because there isn't enough competition,,..wow take about a upcoming bottle neck..

Unlikely.  The USA has cheap USPS media mail while Canada has nothing even close for shipping.  So FVF per sale is less on .com than on .ca for a similar media item sale. An extra 2-3% needed to balance revenue Smiley Tongue

Re: Ebay might introduce new feature

unless a person is selling high value items in those categories, a 2-3% fee increase is not that huge...for me it is insignificant for what I list, but since I despise the very idea of giving eBay any more $  for my already fast dwindling sales, I shall choose to list those categories on .CA. Moreover, eBay just keeps giving me more reasons to move my items to other venues.

Re: Ebay might introduce new feature

It is unlikely that this feature will be coming to eBay.ca any time soon--this goes for much of what was announced at Open.

It is refreshing to see that Ebay Canada seems to be taking a different approach and not pushing (self imposed) increased marketing costs on sellers and further perpetuating a race to the bottom. It will be interesting to see how other country sites break with the direction coming out of the US moving forward.
