It's my impression that Canada Post is profitable in terms of the money received for delivery stuff, compared to the cost of delivering stuff (and that cost includes labour costs).
The corporation loses money when they have high infrastructure costs, like the new Winnipeg plant and chucks all those costs into a single year's financial report.
and like handing Deepak Chopra a $500k/year contract? I'm sorry, but there is absolutely no way that man is worth $500k/year for anything, nor is anyone else at Canada Post for that matter!

The Conservatives obviously like what they see in Canada Post president and CEO Deepak Chopra: his contract has been extended five years effective Feb. 1, 2016, at a salary of roughly $500,000 per year.
Cabinet approved the deal in July – six months before Chopra’s first five-year contract was due to expire. Given the uncertainty created by the Oct. 19 federal election, the new contract likely provides meaningful severance for Chopra should the Conservatives lose power.
The Liberals and New Democrats have promised to halt Canada Post’s ongoing efforts to end home mail delivery, which is expected to produce up to $500 million in annual savings by 2019.
This doesn’t necessarily mean they would fire Chopra if they are elected, but it’s difficult to see the former Pitney Bowes Canada executive sticking around under this scenario. He would have to backtrack on a central part of his plan to turn around the $8-billion-a-year Crown corporation.
Chopra announced 15 months ago that Canada Post would eventually phase out delivery to more than five million households, replacing door-to-door service in many cases with community mailboxes. The corporation converted 100,000 homes last year and expects to introduce community mailboxes to another 900,000 by the end of this year.

I do think those sports celebrity (and movie stars and the likes) are waaaaaaaaaaaay overpaid. Hence I don't watch sports and don't really support the entertainment industry much. I don't understand why the entertainment industry gets paid sooo much when it's "entertainment", not something that's absolutely essential to the society. And people complain that nurses (after working for 10+ years and acquiring problems like back pain, or even dying on the job due to disease outbreaks) are paid too much?? That, to me, is an essential service. I have been a frequent flyer in hospitals since I was a child because of my chronic childhood illness, and I think the wonderful doctors and nurses and other health practitioners who looked after me should be the ones making $500,000 a year, but they don't. Something's wrong with our society. [/end rant]

I'm not proclaiming to be a Chopra fan, but if irks me that people are all up in arms about top business jobs getting money like this but 25 million dollar baseball/hockey/basketball/football/acting contracts are no big deal?
Society seems to be so out of touch sometimes....
Sorry I just had to rant.....
Hey, I believe that all sports salaries should be based on performance. You get perhaps 1 year with that initial signing bonus and after that if you don't put points on the board or excel in whatever stats are important in your position, you pay will reflect that.
If this was a discussion about sports salaries I would have definitely made my opinion clear in the same fashion that I feel about the CP CEO.

Is management at Canada Post overpaid? I do not know.
What I do know is that a week ago, Canada Post was advised that their request to increase lettermail rate for 2016 from $0.85 to $0.90 was rejected by the federal government.
A week later, Canada Post has not yet updated their website.
How do you measure the efficiency of senior management if the information on the postal rate most used by Canadians is incorrect on their official website?
https://www.canadapost.ca/tools/pg/prices/lm_pricesheet-e.pdf
Then, try calling Canada Post to get the correct information... it may take a while and require a few transfers!
Anyone arguing that management at Canada Post is underpaid should rethink their position.

Hi Pierre, off hand what is incorrect on that linked sheet, is 0-30g $0.85 , 30.01-50g $1.20 , 50.01-100g $1.80 etc not correct? These are the #'s I've using for stamped letter mail...

"0-30g $0.85 " is correct
"30.01-50g $1.20 , 50.01-100g $1.80 etc " NOT YET confirmed
information as of 2:45pm today when I discussed the subject face to face with the local postmaster (we just came back).

OK , but they are the current price, n'est–ce pas?

My husband had bookmarked the 2016 rates the other day but now when he goes to look at them, it shows all current prices so perhaps Pierre is referring to the same thing. I don't see anything on that page stating they are the new prices but I think that might have been changed.

OK Thanks, I just wanted to make sure I was using the correct pricing all this year... I know if i'm short postage they let me know, I just don't want to be giving unnecessary excess money to CPC
