On my main selling ID i sell about 40-70 items per month for which i use US and International oversized letter mail to ship. The new rates from Canada Post are kiler. Will cost me over $60 per month more. While there may be a teeny tiny justification for raising domestic lettermail rates, there is none for raising rates to the US and for International. All Canada Post does is drop it on the doorstep of another postal system and that postal system does all the work. While an oversized letter to the US went from $2.20 to $2.95 the cost of the same sized envelope to any other country went from $4.36 to nearly $6!! Absolutely no justification for that. Raising my prices is not the solution......unlike the morons running Canada Post, i realize that a price increase means reduced sales and thus costs me money that way....probably more money.
Like most effected by this i am finding ways to fight back against Canada Post and if all goes well i will actually be spending less with them by the end of the summer. This grotesque rate hike is completely unacceptable and shows the poor quality of management in charge of Canada Post. Any idiot can think of raising rates when you have a monopoly......it takes skilled business leaders to find other solutions....solutions that will actually work. And if Canada Post is looking for ways to cut expenses, management can start with their own gigantic salaries and bonuses. Could easily shave $50 million per year right there.
It's time to privatize Canada Post. Royal Mail privatized a few years ago and their service is outstanding and rates rock bottom (less than 40% of what Canada Post charges).

"All Canada Post does is drop it on the doorstep of another postal system and that postal system does all the work."
Not quite...under UPU rules Canada bears the expense of flying that mail to the destination countries and in return for having that mail delivered there it has to deliver the mail received from the other countries here.

Delivering that mail costs money here and so your postage helps cover the cost of delivering all the foreign mail here.
