International shipping on .com when selling to Canadians

Hello,

I have been selling for a few months and I mainly list on .com (located in Canada). I have international shipping on and so far 2 of my sales have been international (Germany and UK). I put a flat rate for international shipping, but I can’t see a way to specifically charge Canadians less for shipping. Is there a way? Right now the international flat rate I use is quite high because it’s expensive to ship to most locations.

Thank you!

You should always add the service for Canada before the worldwide option so that Canadians see the lower price in search view.  To do that...On a current .com listing click on revise and at the bottom of the international services box, click on the arrow to the right of worldwide, click on destination and then check off  Canada.  Choose your service and add your cost. I usually use standard or expedited international for Canada and economy for other countries.

Then add another service for worldwide.

I use Free Shipping for most of my US and Canadian sales.

DON'T PANIC!

Free Shipping means you have added your shipping costs to the asking price of your product.

Which is cheaper:  A $10 item with $5 shipping or a $15 item with Free Shipping.

When I list on dotCOM, I use Free Shipping for USA(domestic on dotCOM) and $0.00 for Canada.

For the more expensive Overseas shipping, I enter the Canada Post cost less the FS I added to the asking price.

So my $15 /Free Shipping item for a US address, would be $15+ $10 shipping to the UK.

But if the item has to travel Parcel Rate, which varies based on Destination as well as weight and dimensions, I list on dotCA which allows me to use Calculated Rates.

BTW with Calculated Rates the customer sees the counter rate from Canada Post, but on many parcel services we get a discount.

If you list of dotCA but give USA as a shipping destination, your customer will see your prices in USD on dotCOM in Search, and in both currencies on dotCA.

The cheapest Tracked service in Canada is not available electronically. But you can use LetterRate for your DVD/CD shipments (under 2cm thick) and add Registered at the PO counter.

DoNOT use Registered for international/USA shipments. The Registration does not reliably work.

This may be useful.

Also you should get a Solutions for Small Business card , if only for the discounts.'
