Is additional 2-day wait to open unpaid item case just a Canada thing?

At the link below (on ebay.com) it sounds like they can open an unpaid item case after 2 days of non-payment, whereas in Canada (as I just confirmed) we have to wait an extra two days (a total of 4 days after the listing ends).

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/payment-policies/unpaid-item-policy?id=4271

"A seller may report an unpaid item if the buyer doesn't pay or contact them within 2 days."

Same on the Canadian site, according to the eBay.ca Unpaid Item Policy:

Interesting. There's some inconsistency then because here it says "If it's been more than 4 full days since the listing ended, you can select Report an unpaid item."

Probably just an editing glitch.  The US equivalent of the page you linked to in your last post is here and shows two days, as you say:

Canada has been 4 days for ages. Up to 8 days after that to officially close or for the buyer to respond. This discrepancy (Am I allowed to use the word discrapancy?) was passed on but nothing has changed. Most annoying when you're pretty sure there is no chance a customer will pay or respond as to a reason for them not paying.

The four day(96 hour) delay between purchase and opening an Unpaid Item Dispute has been in place for decades.

But I am under the impression that the deadbeat/slow payer in turn has only 96 hours (four days) to pay up or the transaction ends and he gets a Strike.

Could you confirm, please?

Lotz is right.

It's 4 days to open a case, then an additional 4 days opportunity for the buyer to pay.

A total of 8 days is the .ca minimum requirement before a seller can close on a deadbeat buyer, and receive a FVF credit.

I've had several International buyers choose to not pay. I don't recall on the US but it was always 8 days before they closed on their own if a buyer didn't respond. I also had to watch to confirm if it relisted on it's own or I had to do that manually. There could be a conflict when it's a listing with multiple units available.

To clarify...4 days to open...8 days to close automatically if buyer does not respond. = 12 days

If you have your settings set to automatically close 8 days after it is open I suppose it would be 12 days but mine aren't open and closed automatically so the minimum for .ca listings is 4 and 4....a total of 8 days.

The first few posts have a couple of .ca links, one showing 2 days and the other 4. Is that a mistake...is something changing? Post 2 has a link with 2 days, post 3 with 4 days.

Current settings in my seller account are as follows:

Unpaid.JPG

Only options are 4, 8 ,16,24, 32 days

As for the 8 days after one has been opened that is from past recurring history of how it has always played out. Grandfathered or eBay over-ride??? No idea. As stated in other posts there are still buyers seeing a message when I send an offer that shipping is free with the APP when it is clearly stated when I send as per calculator or flat rate. This could definitely be what can cause a buyer to be non paying and or not respond to requests to pay.

Yes, if you set your option to let eBay handle no payment automatically.

Do it manually , and it's 4 and 4.

Thanks. I've now done that. In looking at it more closely it doesn't define exactly what the standard policy unpaid policy is and like many eBay sellers they are nervous when tinkering with any settings because they never know what damage that could potentially cause. The 2 and 4 day discrepancy for opening a case is still not easy to rationalize or explain between the 2 sites.

IMO, 8 days is still far too long to resolve an unpaid transaction or any other cancellation.

Even worse when either the eBay fees still show as pending or can be billed if the transaction happens to fall close to your billing date(Paypal) or if it's an item with lots of interest. Those buyers could just go elsewhere whereas you are left in a holding pattern.
