I used to do the revenge FB thingee until It was rather generously pointed out to me that it made me look bad. I stopped it many years ago. The quality of response says a lot about a seller.

To Mr. Elmwood, Expedited Mail to USA DON'T take 4 business days.  It takes at least up to 3 weeks!  I know because I send many parcels/packages by Expedited Mail all the time.  Never 4 business days unless it is XpressPost.

I hate it when someone especially eBay assumed the time of delivery when they are always often wrong.

XpressPost to USA is 2-3 business days and why the heck should Expedited be more faster as it is ground mail service and 1/2 less than XpressPost in rates.

The odd parcel going astray does not determine the time. Expedited takes four days, Xpresspost 1-2, Small Packet 5-10. This isn't my first day.

I can honestly say I've never had an Expedited Air parcel to the U.S. take more than 7 days (even to rural California, which is about as far from my location in Nova Scotia as it can go in the mainland U.S.).  Usually they arrive in 5 or 6 days, sometimes even 4 days (to the east coast - Boston, New York areas, etc.).

Are you perhaps referring to Small Packet Air (or Light Packet Air), or a ground service?  Even with Small/Light Packet Air, I've never experienced a delivery time of more than 2 weeks, and I use those services a lot.

Mr. Elmwood is no doubt correct in saying that the new HS codes should speed up transit time through US Customs, and hopefully we Canadian sellers will benefit from that in shorter overall transit times for our parcels going to the U.S. (and overseas).  Let's hope...

Rose, my packets are rocketing through the system to the US and around the world. Delivery is noticeably faster. That is, using Paypal shipping, which prints the label in Customs approved format with Customs required information.

Xpresspost took 2 days last week. Small packet, I am getting responses from buyers within a week, to the point where I say out loud "It can't be there already".

Right -- I noticed last week that a customer had left me FB about an item received that I assumed would still be in transit (sent by Light Packet).  So maybe those HS codes are working the way they should -- go figure -- something that actually functions in practice as it's intended to do.  Wow!

Since my sales have been in a slump this past week anyway (due to other causes we're all sighing about), I haven't had a chance to check out US delivery times against the "old" expectations, but I'll be watching now.

We can always use this kind of good news, right?

That things are working is encouraging. Thing is, these current upgrades were promised to me, face to face, at eBay Live Las Vegas 2006. Paypal manager told me they were going to be working with CP to implement these changes within weeks. Yeah, this was eight years ago this month.

I should clarify this, 15-20 days since he paid, I shipped a week later. I get a lot charge backs so I usually wait and buying 3 of the watches was suspicious

I would never wait a week to ship unless my handling time in the listing was stated as being one week.  Even then, waiting a week is more than likely going to cause trouble.

Also, with expedited you have proof of shipment which is all you need in order to win a paypal chargeback so waiting really didn't accomplish anything.

We do not know if there was "tracking" or not.  The fact one can "track" a parcel with Canada Post does not mean that "tracking" is acceptable to PayPal.

I regularly ship parcels "parcel post" through Canada Post.  I get a so-called "tracking" number allowing me to see online when the parcel is delivered.  However, I realize and accept that this "tracking" is not acceptable by eBay or PayPal in case of claim for non-receipt.

Pierre, when you say parcel post..what are your referring to? I'm not familiar with any service that shows the item as being delivered that Paypal doesn't accept as proof of delivery.

It also depends where you are located and if you and your buyer are located in major hubs.  If you are both in smaller cities, that can add a couple of days to the delivery time.

I've never used xpresspost to the U.S. but whenever I've gotten a quote from CP, the estimated delivery time is 3-4 business days. For expedited, they quote 6-8 business days but I would say the norm in my experience is 5-8 days.

Yes I know, which is why I was surprised he doesnt answer me. To be honest, most chargebacks/did not receive issues I get are from 200-1000 feedbacks, hardly from newbies. I get a few chargebacks within a week of purchase about 1-2 times a month.

This was my first time someone making such an expensive order and 3 of the same items so I was cautious about it. Ive had a lot of issues with buyers and losing cases, I don't think I've ever won a case. People don't read or their address is wrong, even people admitting they received the item after winning the case but I never get my money back. Its not a big deal, its part of the business but it happens.

As for the poster suggesting about my responses to feedbacks.. the buyer agreed to waiting 4-8 weeks surface mail international to get the item, I msg them after their purchases to double check and they agree to waiting. They almost never wait and start complaining at the 4 week mark.

I feel its better to leave a stern response to complaints, especially since most of them are problems due to their laziness to read listings or use common sense (like don't order from overseas when you need it in a specified time like a birthday, then complain to me it hasnt arrived, once shipped its beyond my control) Or flat out lies because I don't refund them, after all I sell a lot of games and cards things teenagers are after.

Leaving a stern response also greatly deters people who want free things. And I believe most sellers should adopt this policy

"I'm not familiar with any service that shows the item as being delivered that Paypal doesn't accept as proof of delivery."

My understanding has always been that PayPal will not accept as proof of delivery for the purpose of its Seller Protection Policy some services offered by Canada Post such as: light packet, small packet, registered mail and domestic parcel post (unless Expedited or XpressPost services are used)..

But there is no proof of delivery with light packet and small packet. With those services, you can't even tell that an item is in the mail system. There may be an exception to that with small packet as they recently added an internal sku. The number does not come up on the CP website but one poster said that if you looked on the receiving country's site, the small packet package does sometimes show as being delivered. I haven't looked to see if that is true.

I found there are a couple different quotes for shipping time for expedited parcel on different sites. On ebay it says expedited takes 5-10 business days, on paypal it says 4-8 business days, and on canadapost.ca it says 5 business days. In my experience over the years, it can take 5-13 business days to arrive to Canada or USA. I have had an expedited parcel going to Western Canada take more than two weeks to arrive, this happened only once though. I even had an expedited parcel go missing, and had to file a claim with Canada Post. Many times expedited has taken up to 13 business days to arrive to a USA destination, there has been small packet air packages that would arrive faster than expedited. Since noticing this, I would often chose small packet air over expedited, takes same amount of time or faster, unless it's an expensive item of course. All this was some time ago, maybe things are faster now. Also, expedited tracking doesn't always win cases, I have had more than once ebay tell me the expedited tracking wasn't enough proof, and they refunded the buyer in both cases.

It was several years ago that Canada Post blended Expedited Parcel US A... with USPS Priority Mail.

Look on the form for Expedited parcel USA

Expedited Parcel USA has tracking that works.

There is no way eBay can say that Expedited tracking is unacceptable...... or does not work

Once the parcel crosses the border it becomes equivalent to USPS Priority Mail.

I have always been able to tracking Expedited parcel to the destination.

Tracking that shows delivery will always win cases

If tracking shows an errant parcel.... then Canada Post will pay an insurance claim....

as once happened for me...  Parcel arrived in New York zip code...  Buyer did not pick it up... and it was coming back to me... Got to Toronto,  went to Montreal  and then back to New York, to a totally different zip code... Canada Post could not find the parcel..

If the parcel shows delivery  then there can be no insurance claim...

If eBay/Paypal makes a refund before tracking shows delivery... then there is a big problem....

A refund should not be made before an insurance claim  will be paid out....

If tracking shows delivery... there should be no refund..

Refunds should always be made by the seller...  and made only after an insurance claim is to be paid by Canada Post.....

If buyer does not cooperate with an insurance claim...  there should be no refund....

Shipping quotes are estimates....  and should never be considered absolutes....

My listings state

Estimated Delivery within 7-12 business days,

and if weekends are added in   it becomes.... add in the weekends

In absolute this is 9 to 16 days.

with a handling time of 3 days

Note the wording as "Estimated Delivery Time"

I never gave the refunds in those situations, ebay did. I don't know about these days, but about 3 years ago or so, expedited didn't always show updated information on tracking, and Canada Post stated in their terms back the that expedited online tracking isn't always updated (something to that affect), it wasn't mandatory then for them to do so I guess. Sometimes it didn't show it as delivered, even know it was, sometimes would only show it was accepted at post office and that's it, sometimes would show a couple updates like accepted at post office, and then show it made it to Montreal, or that it made it across the border, and that's it. It wasn't considered a reliable source of tracking by ebay then, this is why ebay didn't accept the expedited tracking and refunded the buyer. I have had one expedited parcel not show updated tracking, buyer claimed they didn't receive and made a claim, buyer was refunded by ebay. On another occasion, the expedited tracking showed as delivered, buyer said they didn't receive it and made a claim, I called ebay, they told me it wasn't a reliable source of tracking like Fedex tracking, or Xpresspost/Priority tracking, so they refunded the buyer.

Melissa,

You wrote:  Many times expedited has taken up to 13 business days to arrive to a USA destination, there has been small packet air packages that would arrive faster than expedited.

In my experience, the USPS has been very quick to deliver Expedited Parcels, usually in 3-4 business days (and remember that Saturday is a USPS business day). Any delivery delay would likely be attributable to Canada Post getting the parcel over the border. I live in Ottawa and Expedited Parcels-USA usually make it to the USPS in New York via Montreal in 1 to 2 biz days. I don't know where in Canada you live. What's the time lag getting your parcels to the border?

If your Exp Parcels often take up to 2 weeks or so to reach their destinations and can be slower than Small Packets, you should complain to Canada Post. After all, it was Canada Post that summarily decreed that any parcel to USA heavier than 1 kg must go Expedited. Not forgetting also that it was Canada Post who set a weight limit of 1 kg for Small Packets to USA, when the limit is 2 kg to everywhere else.

Tom
