Need customer email in order for canada Post to find package

I have a package that is going around in circles in Ohio which is being forwarded to a different address and then send back only to have the process start over gain. This is a regular customer who has successfully recieved packages from me both before and after this item was sent. It appears to be in an infinite feedback loop.

Here is the problem - I put in a request to Canada Post to intervene but they came back with a requirement for the reciever's email address. Unfortunately I cannot request that due to EBay's member privacy rules. Canada post has said it will cancel the case in five days if i don't send them the address.

Ant sggestions to solve this?

Since you are in a transaction with your customer you can ask for his email or his telephone number through Messages.

Is the customer's phone number on their invoice? Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't.

Hi Devon....Just tagging you in on this because it is an issue with any kind of claims. eBay mail is designed for eBay only. Sellers need buyers email real email addresses for the claim process or else they get rejected. Once the buyer has been refunded they almost always drop off the map due to this problem. (They got refunded....They no longer have skin in the game, so to speak. Seller should still be able to get reimbured for their loss).  Made even more difficult when the the phone number on file is hidden after a very short window. I am aware of 1 other seller besides myself (tagged) and another where a claim just got left in the wind because of the difficulties with contacting the buyer after the fact. The link that was provided in another question on the topic was from USPS which would not be the starting point on CP shipment.

I save all my shipping labels ( a quick file save to a folder) before i print it out. So I atleast have USA phone numbers if ever needed, but the email is still an isue for any claims I agree.

The phone number does not work apparently. Like i said - this is a regular customer so I'm not suspecting anything untoward on their part.

@regs43

Unsure of the when or the why for eBay Labels but  the phone number was ported over to Shippo automatically. The blank is there with CP for Canada. (Both online and purchase as you go services).  It may have never been included for Canada as "privacy" eBay upper management decision with no forethought.

For international shipments the email added automatically with shippo. If it is there with eBay labels (ported over) it's invisible on the printout.

Can only imagine the bruhaha that would be caused if US customs lowered the limits and Tax ID numbers became a mandatory requirement. 🤣😬😨

Re: Need customer email in order for canada Post to find package

You can double check with eBay's customer service, but you're allowed to request off-site info to facilitate anything related to a transaction that has already been paid for through eBay.

The ban on exchanging info is strictly for people who try to circumvent eBay fees by taking a sale off the site.

You may have to send the message on a web browser, because the mobile app sometimes prevents messages that have e-mail addresses in them from being sent.

You could also call or text the customer using the phone number on the transaction, but some customers would see this as a violation of their privacy because they don't even know that you have their phone number. You can easily find the phone number by going to your orders page, clicking the 'order details' drop down, and clicking 'print packing slip and more'. It will show on the packing slip.

Some customers also have an eBay e-mail on the packing slip. Not all of them have this. If they have an eBay e-mail listed #########@ebay.members.com - you can try to use that. I don't know exactly how it works, but I assume it's just a proxy and they will get a notification through their messages if they get an e-mail.

As a last resort, if this is a missing mail report, you could just put your own e-mail in. If you have gmail, you can insert a period anywhere in the e-mail so that it is different than the one you provided, and you will still get the response. So long as USPS has the phone number for the person, you're probably okay. It just means they won't get whatever automated responses the missing mail report gives out.
