New Canada Post Int'l Shipping Changes Dilemma

As some Canadian sellers already know, Canada Post is implementing a new system that will require us to fill out and print online forms, when mailing packages internationally. For the most part this is not a major inconvenience, but I can see a huge potential problem here that has not yet been discussed.

The problem is that all shipping forms will now require the recipients phone number. Currently, buyers are not required to disclose this to the seller and what's worse, eBay tries to prevent it to stop outside transactions. Which means that if I ask a buyer for his phone number to fill out the form, I risk having the message blocked or even getting suspended for violating eBay policy.

So how is this supposed to work? Is eBay going to change their policy now (require buyers to give phone # with PP payment for example), or wait until the you-know-what hits the fan? Or perhaps nothing will be done at all, leaving us poor sellers at a dead end.

I'm surprised nobody has noticed this or discussed it yet, I hope this thread can start the ball rolling.

I'm not so sure this will be an issue. Phone numbers have been "required" for a long time. This has not been enforced. I had an Expedited parcel to the USA today, and the phone number printed out as 000-000-0000. Ultimately, the digit fields were filled in.

The small stuff we deal in? I really do not think that they care about telephone numbers.

It's required for stuff that has a time delivery like Priority so CP can contact the recipient but in general they never do, they just bring it back to the depot to check if incorrect address.

I would just put your number on it instead so you don't have to violate ebay policy.

When asking for the required  telephone number, have buyer write it out . For example, 123 is one two three.  This should not cause problems.

CP does not deliver to other countries. In the US, it is the USPS that delivers. It then becomes their rules and decisions.

That's how I read it as well. No phone number MIGHT invalidate a service guarantee.
