I sold some yarn to a first time buyer late this afternoon. Packed it up, did the Paypal label ready to mail tomorrow.
2 hours later I get a Paypal dispute opened to say that it hadn't arrived, well, I am not surprised, it's sitting on my kitchen table.
Had to phone Paypal, refunded payment, fees refunded. Called eBay, explained the situation, fees refunded.
I have a lot of first time buyers, 9 in the last 3 weeks, usually never a problem. However, 3 of the recent buyer messaged me that the package had not arrived in just a couple of days. This is the first one in a couple of hours.
I have wondered why this is happening, and I have a theory that it may be Amazon. We purchase things from them, printer ink, paper etc. and it usually arrives the next day. With so many people purchasing on Amazon and getting fast shipping, it may be causing a problem. Anyone think this may be a cause of the late shipping disputes on eBay.

They really do need a better system when it comes to buyers remorse or when a customer finds 15 minutes later for a lower price. Especially once the postage is created and only way one can get refund in Shippo is a credit vs a refund. One song does come to mind that sums it up very well!! I feel your pain!!

yes, the Amazon effect doesn't help
Also at times overly optimistic Canada Post estimated delivery dates when it comes to International shipping don't help, one user advised to switch the shipping method to "Economy Shipping" to give a wider margin of error, that might do it. I've had recently a buyer from Belgium open an INR only to retract himself 2 days later when the parcel did arrive, the case was opened 1 day after the prescribed 10 business days period by Canada Post.
I've made a $400 purchase of premium diecasts (off eBay) that arrived to my house 2 weeks late from Japan. I didn't lose sleep over it (didn't check the tracking once), didn't throw a fuss. I found many buyers to be short tempered, paranoiac (no tracking = seller is a scammer) and have little patience these days... I ship same day/next day, that's the best I can do.

In looking at the suggested delivery times for items posted to the USA, nowhere does it state that Customs delays COULD occur. It only mentions peak times. I'm located in Calgary. My packages can take 1 to 3 days to make it to Vancouver. Then they go on to LAX for customs clearance followed by dispatch to their final location. In checking a package to either the east or west coast delivery time for Small Packet Air to the USA shows both as 5 to 11. Time adjusts to 5 to 10 days for Tracked service. Calgary to LA and Calgary to Maine should not display the same.

But my buyer claimed non-delivery 2 HOURS after she purchased. Even complaining after 2 days is way out, no chance of getting a package to the US in that time.

They just chose the first option they saw...Relevant or not. Probably the reason why eBay/Paypal was able to close the case so fast for you. If buyers were to message a seller before opening a case it would be possible to resolve a good percentage of these situations in a more acceptable manner for both parties

Newsflash!!!
Effective the next federal election there will be only one party choice on the ballot.
Please choose carefully!!
Scary thought!!

This is why I use all the indications I can that I am NOT in the States.
My fb tells the customer the date of shipping, and that it is shipping by Canada Post. I include the tracking number if there is one. And I use Canadian spelling (favour, cheque) as a further hint.
I hope that nitwit is now on your Blocked Bidder List.

People tend to use this option when they want to cancel an order and are past that initial window where they can. Other than that subset of **bleep**py customer I've never had an issue with US customers, although that could change since 1 day shipping is now the great peeing contest between the two bringers of societal ruin there.

Yes, for sure!
