Peace and Goodwill .... bah! humbug

You know, $30 isn't going to put me in the poorhouse but, jeez, getting ripped off at Christmas is worse than any other time.  Seriously, how do people sleep at night?

The buyer asked if I could hold on to the piece of clothing for 3 weeks until she could free up the funds ... that was fine with me.  So then I shipped it and now she tells me that the gift I enclosed (which I include with all purchases) was received but the item itself wasn't there.  She said the package had likely been opened and re-closed and described how it was re-sealed.  Everything she described about the packaging and how it was sealed was precisely the way I had done it.  So she, of course, wanted to be courteous enough to contact me first since she "hates to open up cases.  What can any of us do in a case like this but send the refund.

Since I last looked at her feedback, she made all sorts of purchases while I was waiting to be paid.

Of course this all comes with the territory but it just spoils what was starting out to be a really nice evening, with the twinkling lights .... and the new guy who just moved in down the hall Smiley Happy  I just keep telling myself she needs the money more than I do.

You can ask her to send the package back with tracking.

You're amazingly generous-hearted.  What a shame there are people willing to take advantage of sellers who are doing everything right.  I hope a friendly chat with the guy down the hall may make up for this experience.  Smiley Wink

I see 'rosscd'  suggests asking the buyer to return the package, but my guess is that this sort of person won't bother to return it at all, whether or not you offer pay for the shipping.  I wouldn't waste more time or money on this horrid buyer.

IMHO eBay needs to take a good, hard look at this issue and come up with a solution to the phony INR claims.  I don't know exactly what that might be, but it does need to be soon!

My suggestion to have the buyer return the empty package with tracking, would have had to have been done before the refund was issued.

This may have changed the buyers story perhaps. But it is to late now from the look of it since the refund has been sent.

I very briefly considered doing this but you get a feel for certain people and the tone of their messages.  The way she said she "hates to open cases" obviously means she's done it before or threatened to do it before, so I'm pretty sure she would have filed a claim as soon as she sensed any reluctance on my part.  So I tried to save myself some stress from having the claimed opened.  I would have ended up paying anyway, so I'd rather get it over with.

And there you've summed up in a nutshell what is wrong with eBay's INR policy where sellers are concerned.  D----d if you do, d------d if you don't.
