As with all things eBay some interesting observations about my promoted listings.
I have 49 items promoted in 6 campaigns (each campaign is generally items of similar style so I can keep track).
These campaigns have all been running continuously for over a year (since March 2018).
Most of the items have been running for years (they are multi item listings).
Generally they are quiet with a sale or two now and then.
In march this year a bit higher sell rate, 9 of them during the month.
For some unknown reason 17 items have sold in the last 2 weeks.
-no price change
-no promoted listing "commission" rate change (I've never changed them)
I did some comparison shopping
-the best selling campaign commission rate is significantly higher than the trending rate
-most of the other campaigns are below the trending rate
-of these one is selling well, relatively speaking
- a couple are above the trending rate but not selling
I did some comparison browsing (at a very high level in my category)
(It appears that 10 sponsored listings are presented on page 1 of all search results (48 items), at least on all of mine there were 10).
My most successful group of items:
-search returns 1,275 items
-of the 10 sponsored items, 5 are mine, and the best selling one shows up both sponsored and regular on page 1
Less successful group of items:
-search returns 32,101 items
-of the 10 sponsored items 2 are mine
-they are ones below the trending rate
-they are NOT the ones below the trending rate that have been selling
-of the 10 sponsored, 3 show up as both sponsored and regular, none mine
So this really as always turns into simply a "things that make you go hmmmm".
I don't have the faintest idea what has caused the spike in the last 2 weeks, unless someone who used to have a higher sponsor rate quit in the most successful campaign area.
I don't know why the 2 items that show on the 32K result aren't the ones that have been selling.
Still a worthwhile venture, I learned a couple things while I was investigating which is always good....
(PS that's part of the reason I type these things up, I much better remember stuff I've written so whilst I'm writing it I might as well share it!)
