My item is over .8" so I assume the only option is to send as a package. Is there any other alternative to paying a whooping $22 for shipping a 3oz 4x6" packet 1" thick ?
When did rates get so high?

Where are you shipping?
If you purchase your postage on eBay, its around $6-9 CAD for a label within Canada, and something around $8 for a label to the US.
I've been buying labels on ebay for my coins and paying around $6 for most shipments (to a major city), and I got one for $8 that was to a rural place in Quebec. It quoted me as much as $9 for New Brunswick but I opted to use stamps and post as the item's value was low.

This is 2025 >prices have increased....Perhaps if you had checked rates BEFORE listing you would have been better prepared...

I'm guessing that should be around $7-8 with eBay postage.
You can print eBay postage on 4x6 labels or large 8.5x11 sheets of paper.

I'm sending outside of ebay, just shocked at CP rates now and asking what others are doing. They are 3x what I paid before. I usually use Chitchats but now I see ebay offers much lower shipping rates and appears to work now.

It would have been an easy solution to do your research prior to listing.

There is a special (somewhat new, couple of years maybe?) service you can only purchase through eBay Labels called Expedited Lite, it was a special deal they made with Canada Post but can't be done with Canada Post directly (only eBay) Package has to be under 200 grams (you said yours is 3 oz which I think is about 85 grams). There are certain size limits as well but your 4 x 6 x 1" package would be able to go with that. As sappyres has said, it averages $6 - $9 depending on location.

Like I said it was not listed

Longer distances like that are always tougher, but outside of eBay labels (which will probably be the lowest prices for something that size and weight), Chit Chats or Stallion if you have access to them, Sendle, or companies that have access to many different services such as EasyShip, ClickShip, or Shipping Chimp should all be quite a bit cheaper.
Using those postal codes, it looks like ClickShip (using UPS) would be $14.59 + tax, Sendle would be $13.31 + tax. It's harder to quick quote Shipping Chimp, but going from where I live in a small town in Ontario to Delta looks like it would be $10.43 + tax (using Canada Post). It might be more in reverse, I'm not sure. There are certainly other options to choose from, and probably more I haven't tried yet.

Thanks. I used Chitchats - $10 using their "Select" service which is less than 1/2 CP pricing. Chitchats told me they partnered with GMS to get these "low" rates.
Seems incredible it costs $4.51 in the USA to send the same package across the country but $22 here.

I don't understand why you didn't just print the postage directly through eBay Labels?
Would have been like $7, fully tracked with $100 insurance through Canada Post.

I wasn't aware I could do that at the time and when I last used ebay labels it didn't work. I'm listing on ebay.com with a US address. Not sure if I can print Can post label that way. Will try with the next sale.

Rates for packages (anything more than 2cm thick) have been high for YEARS. Your fault for not getting up to date with the basics of shipping with Canada Post...

Stop using imperial measures.
Canada Post went metric in 1974 and any other measurement will be inaccurate.
The thickness that moves domestic mail from Letter Rate to Parcel rates is 2 cm.
International Mail has to go by Parcel and have customs information attached.
EBay has a 53% discount on some Canada Post labels to the USA.
The cheapest is about $6.55 after the discount.
To print the Canada Post label you just switch the page from dotCOM to dotCA.
Then you have access to Canada Post shipping labels.

You can print them on the .ca site, you will have to change your shipping address to your Canadian address to print a label, but it can be done. You won't be able to ship this way to the US if your item location is USA, you are expected to use domestic USA shipping. On my dot com account I upload USPS tracking from Stallion Express on my US orders.
