I got another email from someone in Sweden, where is my CD sent Feb 13. Now the estimated delivery date is Feb 19 to Mar 5/18 but still that is not long enough when you use economy shipping on .com. I told him to wait 2 more weeks and I told him if he doesn't get it I will repay him.
All of my problems result from the expectation of delivery date that ebay sets up with the buyer, first the 7 days to Canada ( a previous nightmare) and the other 6 to 13 days from Vancouver to Sweden using Chit Chat.
Here is where I wish they were using the 30 days from date of payment because that would work.
My question is when using .com what should I be indicating for the type of shipping to both within Canada and international that will give me enough time.
For shipping - Canada using standard, expedited and economy only gives me 7 calendar days so I cannot use it for Canada. I changed them all to International priority as that is the only one I found that gives enough time. Trust me I searched all of them.
For international I show economy and I use Chit Chat (DHL) and everything goes to Germany first then on to the destination country. Some of the dates to certain countries are very tight.
See below, what methods should I be showing that will not create a false expected date of receipt?

I primarily sell on .COM
For probably well over a year now I've used flat rate:
"standard shipping from outside the US" for the US shipments
"standard international shipping" for everywhere else (including Canada)
So far I haven't had an usual number of questions/concerns around timing.

It is interesting that on ebay.ca economy to get to sweden the estimated dates are 14 to 38 business days but yet on ebay.com. it is 15 working days. This is so totally wrong.

Your listings on .com show a est. delivery time of 7-17 business days to Sweden so if the first date is Feb 19, this must have been purchased on the 8th? It is still another 9 days until the last estimated date so there is plenty of time for the buyer to receive it before they can open a claim. I'm not sure why you don't think that time is long enough? You have a 3 day handling time so I do think that ebay saying that package might arrive in 4 days after that is ridiculous but I think that in most cases the 17 business days is workable.

Ok, now I'm confused. Was the listing for Sweden on .com or .ca because I see 7-17 business days on your .com listings and 14-38 business days on .com so where does the 6-13 days come in ? Perhaps when you sold this item the listing was for standard economy? I believe that standard int'l economy with a 3 day handling time would be 7-13 days to Sweden on both .com and .ca. If that's the case, now that you've changed to economy, that should work out better.
For shipping - Canada using standard, expedited and economy only gives me 7 calendar days so I cannot use it for Canada.
I still believe that the buyer would only see that 7 day estimate if they try to open an inr claim. I've used standard shipping to Canada on .com for ages and no one has ever told me that they expected it within 7 days so I really do think that your problem with this buyer is not the norm. Unless you are having a consistent problem with this, it doesn't make sense to me to change everything.
If you want to see what the buyer sees when they make a purchase, set up a listing on .com using standard int'l shipping to Canada and let me know which listing it is. I'll make the purchase and pay for it so that I will be able to see in my order details what my estimated delivery time is.
Once we know for sure what it says, I'll ask for a cancellation and refund. If you want to test this out, send me a message on one of my listings and we can decide when to do this. If you don't want to do that, that's fine too. 🙂

I think that 38 business days is too long but how do you get 15 business days?
Plus, you can't really compare the two because the int'l options that they use on .com are supposed to be for Americans shipping to Sweden.

In my head, the post office has a big box for 'economy' items going to Sweden and when it is full they tape it shut and put it on a plane.
With USPS and a population of 330 million, that's once a day.
With Canada Post and a population of 35 million, that's once a week.

perhaps they should be giving the same leeway they give to Asian/ overseas sellers, they don't give an exact amount of time, but it usually says 45++ days.

It's because in Canada "economy" can mean surface mail.
In the USA there is no such thing as International Surface mail, USPS does not offer ANY surface option for International.

"I changed them all to International priority as that is the only one I found that gives enough time."
Like I said in that other thread and like Tyler@ebay said later in the Weekly Chat, if you're going to show Priority as your service, you need to use that as your postal service or you run the very real risk of getting buyers filing SNADs and INRs based on you not meeting their expectations for shipping with tracking, never mind the actual displayed delivery-by date. You're trading one problem for another that way, not fixing anything.

15 business days......
No matter what day it is mailed this number includes three weekends and adds 6 days to the 15 business days. That is 21 days.... three weeks.
For mail going to the US I will state..... Delivery should take 10 to 14 days, and sometimes longer if the parcel gets caught up in customs or the postal system.
That is actual days.... NOT business days
No time frame is indicated for mail delivery in Canada,
I do not like to say business days, because many do not understand the concept of business days... 10 business days is most likely viewed as 10 days from today
