Ughh ... Payments Wheel Is Beginning To Turn

Got an email from ebay today. "Getting paid on eBay just got simpler" Hooray, I'm thrilled!

I'm selling on .com and receiving USD in Paypal, I thought that would buy some time on this but it appears I may have been dead wrong about that.

I went to my Hub Payments tab and found that "Coming Soon" has changed to "Register Now". They provide no timeline, just "we'll let you know" before we activate your account.

today's email

Someone from MP did say that if we sold in US dollars we would not be opted in yet so you may want to contact someone in that department and ask them if you can delay it.

I got this today as well.  Registered on ebay.ca but I sell on both .ca and .com.

It said to register in the next 2 weeks and I would be on MP by July 2020.  Very impressed.

I think @reallynicestamps got this in round one, accepted then was told it would be someday later when the US part was working.....

@ricarmic

Wasn't a delay also relavant if a seller happened to sell in large volumes in any of the "Non permitted categories"? I quick check on dot ca currently shows 162 K listings for Canadian coins. On dot com it was well over 1.2 M for US coins.

I also got this e-mail today and because I've been getting tons of phishing e-mails lately (I have a new computer here just waiting to be installed), I thought this was bogus and I didn't click on anything.   Not only did it look different than most e-mails from eBay, the sender showed eBay Canada <ebay@reply2.ebay.ca> and all the other ones I've received show eBay Canada <ebay@reply.ebay.ca> (not reply2).

So now I know what it was.

Yes, those fake emails are working their magic here too. This one's title didn't threaten Armagadeon was coming so I opened it.

I wasn't told anything, but when I tried to sign up, they wouldn't accept my banking information. And by that time, I had learned enough about the "only one bank account and it has to be Canadian" that I decided just to ignore them.

That was in August or so and bupkiss.

I'm getting one or two of those fake emails a day too.

I am never sure whether to Report them or to Block them.

They are not well thought through, telling Canadians their Kohl's account won a lottery or the like. I think kohls is an american drugstore.

But I understand the demographic they are looking for is gullible, stupid and greedy, so they purposely make it easy to ignore if you are none of those.

It's an avalanche of those poorly worded ones here also, they announce at least once a week that my Apple, Paypal, Netflix or Amazon accounts need urgent updates. In fact my Netflix account has apparently been cancelled for weeks now ... still streaming our shows though, imagine that! Oh, and Paypal is restricted too.

Sigh ... lucky me received another nudge today, this time via ebay message. The message was more strident than the email and a little too direct for my liking. Once again there was no mention of a time frame.

Anyone else get this today?

Yes, I got it today in ebay messages.  I registered and it said I would be notified 2 weeks ahead of being activated.  Then I received an email saying I am activated.  So, I am now on MP.

My only concern is, I had to give my bank access # and password to complete the banking info.  I normally change this password every month.  Does anyone know if that will create a problem?

Good grief... that's shabby treatment as far as I'm concerned. There's no good reason I can think of to require that sort of bank info... all they should need is an account transit number and our consent to access the account.

Did they provide the reasoning behind that request?
Was it required for identity confirmation ?
Seems over the top intrusive to me.

They shouldn't require either of those two pieces of information to transfer funds. It's not as if you'll need ebay's permission to change your password. I'd change it now.

Nothing mentioned about a perk like this. $15.00 for signing up. I think it was $50.00 back in July in the USA?

Nope, no inducement offered, my account is such a tiny little blip ... I'm surprised it didn't slip by payments unnoticed! I'm unfazed at this point, not in any hurry to take the leap.

I believe I heard there were a variety of stipends offered to US sellers but no such luck for us north of the border. As of October 31, 340 K (20%) transferred to MP. Guessing no updates because the meter overheated.

As for bank cards they are often damaged during everyday use or are flat out lost, stolen even.  If that were to happen here we just walk into the branch and get a shiny new replacement issued on the spot ...  complete with a new number.
