UpDate on my Jinxed item

I posted the beginning of the month about an item I had sold. First I had 3 non paying buyers then finally sold it (even had a bit of a bidding war) & got paid. It was over $100 USD so was sent with tracking & it was delivered on Oct 4th. Same day I got a return request (buyers remorse,  said it was purchased for a friend & they already had one like it). He emailed me & requested my address to return as he said he could not ship to the one on the label (not sure why other than it is a Rural Route  address which maybe confused him but it is correct). Have heard nothing since & when looking at the return it just says request started, waiting for item to be shipped. According to what it indicated originally on the request he has till Nov 8th to return. I am not sure if that means he must ship it by Nov 8th (assume so) or must be back to me by Nov 8th (does anyone know how that work as I have never had a return request).

eBay has put a hold on my money. As this sale had already gone to my bank account they have been holding my sales since then. Question & advice. Should I be contacting the buyer asking when he is shipping. When I gave him my address I asked him to let me know when shipped but have heard nothging further from him. I do believe they must have tracked shipping to prove it is returned. So is eBay aware when it is shipped ie does he have to upload a tracking no. somewhere. If I have not received any tracking info on the return item by Nov 8th do I need to contact eBay & tell them it was not returned & request they drop the hold. Should I receive confirmation it has been mailed by the 8th when I get it do I need to contact eBay & tell them to refund my FVF or do they automatically do that when I process a refund. The refund will be for the cost of the item only not the original shipping to the buyer or the return shipping. If anyone has had a similiar experience I would appreciate hearing how it all works. Thanks.

Have not gone through this before so thought I would ask here rather than phone eBay as I have found that I do not always get the correct information from them!

He has opened a Dispute, but because this is Buyer Remorse, he has to pay for tracked return shipping.

Just as Sellers don't have to buy shipping through eBay, neither does he.

He may be shocked at the cost of return shipping.

And most buyers are not used to dealing with homeprinted labels.

He may not even know where his closest PO is.

Yes. If he needs to prove it. Which is a different question than whether he has shipped it.

 

So is eBay aware when it is shipped ie does he have to upload a tracking no. somewhere.

If he purchased tracked shipping, he would have to manually give eBay the number or eBay would be just as much in the dark as you are.

But.

Just as Sellers sometimes don't give the tracking, he doesn't HAVE to. Like Sellers, it's only important if proof is demanded.

If it gets back to you, with or without tracking, you will be refunding. (A less than honest seller might deny delivery of an untracked package, just as a less than honest buyer might.)

 

So.

Either he has send the package or he hasn't.

Either he paid for tracking the package or he didn't.

How long did eBay say they would wait before you can close the Dispute?

Because I think that you will be waiting until then before the Hold is lifted.

 

All of which is frustrating.

OTOH, he probably isn't trying to scam you. He's just inept.

 

I made a stupid mistake a couple of weeks ago. The item I sent was not tracked. I offered to track the returned item, but my buyer didn't bother either.  It got to me just fine. I shipped the correct item to him today, still not tracked. Gotta love philatelists and their handshake attitudes.

Thanks for the info. Pretty loosely goosey considering eBay is holding my money. You would think they would have rules for buyers to follow just as they do for sellers. Of course I will refund if I get it but am really starting to wonder. When eBay says he has till November 8th to return, does that mean for him to have shipped to me or for me to have received it? Sure seems to drag on & on considering he received it Oct 4th. 

If this was your situation would you contact the seller again or leave well enough alone? 

I hate how this is dragging out & how long does eBay keep these refund requests open?

I may be wrong but as  I recall the buyer has until November 8th to show that it was shipped, so the tracking would have to start on or before November 8th.... I had one of these, I waited till a while after the ship date, then called the CSRs to make sure I was fine to close, they did on the phone for me. Mine wasn't worth as much as yours so I wasn't sweating it, I moreso wanted to learn how the process worked, because I'd never had one before...

The date they give is the date they have to ship by.  If they hadn't indicated that they shipped or give a tracking number,  the seller used to be able to phone customer service and have them close the case but a while ago they stopped doing that and the seller had to wait for about a month for it to close automatically.   I'm not certain if they are still doing it that way. 


A head's up....even if they don't send it back, you will receive a message from eBay in 2 or 3 weeks saying that the buyer has indicated the item was sent back,  (even though there is no indication of that )  that you should have received it by now and that you need to refund by xx date.  That's a standard message they send out but unless you have received the item back, ignore the refund by date as they will not refund until tracking shows as delivered.

 

As far as the hold on those finds....I haven't had a return request with MP so I'm not sure how it works.
