Username availability

I want to delete one of my accounts and use the username on the other one. Do you guys know if the username will be instantly free? Locked? Or one month to be released?

Here is the help link on the subject and user name policy. I believe everything rule wise is in there. Haven't gone through the modification process in well over 10 years. When I updated mine I was advised to make another change I would have to wait another 30 days so important to be confident in your change.

They say: 

Your old username can’t be used by anyone else on eBay for 30 days. An icon will appear next to your username for 30 days after you change it.

But there is nothing about when an account is closed. What happen to that username. Does the 30 days before the username is free to use apply the same way.

I changed user names once, more than 10 years ago, after the change I wanted to go back to the old name but had to wait 30 days for it to be available again.

Guys i know when you change your username you can't change and it's unavailable for 30-days. But what in the situation where the person close/delete his account? Will the username be available after 30-days the same way? Or will be unavailable for a longer time?

It sounds like to be safe, you should change the username on your old account before closing it. Then wait 30 days, and try to take back the name on the different account. 

I would probably change the name without closing the account. Wait 30 days to add the name to the new account. Then close the old account once you confirm you have the name. 

No guarantee that would work, but it seems like the safer route. It's all just guess work.

You could also contact the AskeBay account on Twitter or Facebook. Maybe there is something they can do since you own both accounts. Probably not, but it's worth asking if they have any way to let you use the name without waiting 30 days.

Is the account you want to close an account that you have  recently sold on?  If so, the account itself won't close right away as eBay will want to make sure there are no chargebacks or returns coming.  If so, there will probably be more than a 30 day wait.

After 30 days anyone else can reuse your old username if it is still available and not claimed by another account holder.

No never used. Long story but i got targeted and harassed on my store account. Someone created a few accounts just to place a bunch of orders and leave fake negatives. Even added fake replies to my follow ups to make me look like i'm crazy. Ebay did not help. The person used friends and family IDs so ebay 'could not match'. I created a new account and went to transfer but decided to just stay with the same account since it's heavy work and anyway negatives won't be visible in a year. So i'll delete the account i created, did not use it. Still i wanna take that username. I already requested the account to be closed. Just wanna know if that deleted account username will be available in 30 days to be taken as usual or not.

Sounds like a pretty new situation for folks on the board.   In general it looks like the name will be available, but I think you are the tester to confirm that it is with your situation of closing the account then opening one with the same name.

Contacted ebay on facebook actually and this is what i got answered:

Thanks for reaching out to us about usernames. I can definitely help answer that question for you. If an account is closed and deleted, you can definitely choose to change the username to the one for the deleted account (but account closure can take up to 60 days to complete).

Still do not confirm that the 30 days delay after username change (here account deleted) apply to this situation, but at least got confirmation that the username become available after closure.
