eBay Canada's New Video Feature Deserves a Major Rave and Kudos!

Thank you eBay!

Just a shout out to sellers  who may wish to try out the new video feature if  it is applicable to your listing. eBay has made it very easy to add them. One of the coolest features is that your viewer can scroll through your listing photographs on the right side while watching the video. You can see some still photos on the right of this cover photo.

I 've used video (when applicable) in my listings for a decade. It required allowable html  coding embedded into the listing description. This  inserted a thumbnail and provided a direct link to  your YouTube video. It took some internet savvy but benefited both the seller and eBay because as well as the link to your video there could also be a link directing viewers  back to the seller's eBay listing.

A problem began when the eBay mobile app came out . Javascript was dropped  and the user had to copy & paste the link below the listing thumbnail into a cell phone browser to view the video. Desktop still works fine. It was just the app.

Guidelines Features Observations

1.  No link is necessary. eBay hosts the videos. That means they play instantly.

2. Videos are limited to 150mb. eBay "suggests"  a 1 minute duration. If you render your video at 1080p you will come in at about 60 seconds. I suggest you render at 720p. You won't have to fight to condense (edit) it.  The sound quality is indestinguishable.

3. eBay won't allow you to surpass 150mb but they seem a bit lenient with the time should you surpass 60 seconds.

4. Make sure your video does not have ANY contact info ie: Written websites, addresses or links to anyplace.

5. Make sure you don't include copywritten music or photos like brand stock photos.  (The music in my intro is CW free music.)

6. Videos take 2 days to be appoved.  COOL feature...If you add a video to your listing draft the draft can sit as a draft until approved.  Stick the video in a draft, then come back later and finish the listing.

7. Depending on the item and the video videos can sometimes deter buyers.  If you aren't used to adding them to your listing It's a good idea to practise a bit. Take a look at the "wavy camera videos with feet in them" on FB Mrkt Plc for how not to make a listing video. I'm not sure what eBay would say about a cute doggy running by. Please let us know! LOL

If your interested here's my 1st eBay video attempt. I was hesitant to use an intro as it's not necessary but it's automated for my channel so I thought I's leave it in and see if it was approved.  It was.

Nice, I can see that being a great feature for your musical equipment to demo it.

Video has been on .com for a bit and I used it a few times and got good feedback.  It was to demo functionality and show condition on some vintage audio pieces where it added to the listing.

I think you had cautioned in an earlier thread about copyright material being on the video, and it can get it taken down.

Thanks.  When eBay dot com started with listing videos years ago a well known seller caught my attention. She purchased an autograph book filled with famous 50's and 60's singing stars autographs...maybe 30 to 40 signatures.  At the time the picture limit was 12.

She had a great idea by making a video to show all of the signatures in the book but she got a little too creative. She included Sinatra and Crosby and others as musical accompanyment to the video. I thought for sure she was going to get a strike.  Back then bots weren't sensitive and eBay dot com didn't pick it up. Lucky for her it sold quickly at a high price.

That wouldn't happen today.  I uploaded a video about paint spraying new construction trim and a worker's radio was playing "Who'll Stop The Rain" in the background.  I got a warning instantly.

There is a lot of cw free music around. Many musicians now create and sell it online. It's one of the few perks musicians got out of digitization.

I think I've been under a rock, cause I missed this news.

This is very cool. I don't think I have a use for it for products I sell, but it will come in handy for the items I have stored away.

They need to allow this to be uploaded from a 3rd party server and upload from youtube.
