final value fee confusion

I thought the final value fee is 10% of the total sale amount??

For all my sales, its consistently 10.5% of the total sale amount??

Yes, I'm aware the shipping is included in the total amount. I always use free listings with no insertion fees

whats going on?

My listings are listed on ebay.ca and sold in canadian dollars, so thats not an issue either

Not sure what category you are listing in so don't know the original %, but you are remembering to include the HST/GST depending on what province you are in right.....

(So my guess is you are in a GST province, so it would be 10% plus 5% GST on the fees making it 10.5% overall when all is said and done)

They are not "charging" tax per se. Merely collecting them for the CRA.

*Reminder**

As always, thank you for selling on eBay!

Perhaps you are paying for listing fees as well. Without seeing your Account Activity, it's difficult for us to hazard a guess. Have you tried calling Customer Service and asking them to explain?

The OP is in Alberta, a 5% GST province

10% x 1.05% = 10.50%

If they were GST registered they could recoup the tax via an Input Tax Credit but I suspect the OP isn't doing enough volume for that unless they have other id's or sell through other channels.

ebay as a company can charge higher or more if they want as business. many offline auction places charge like 15% buyer fee AND 15% seller fee.

That appears to be high but you sellers have no place to sell their merchandise so they pay  the piper.  it's the auction fee that is standard so just make sure you price your merchandise accordingly. or higher than it cost you and still make a profit.

that is the going rate for auction houses. You can advertise on craigslist but there are no buyers for lots of stuff on craigslist or facebook or have the paypal payment.
