Re: 2015 Fall Seller Update

There's also two Congos listed in the drop-down menu. Both Republic of... it might be a shipping glitch.

No, there really are two Congos.

The Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo.

Usually they are referred to using the capital cities Congo(Kinshasa) and Congo (Brazzaville).

Good to know, I think that would be Light Packet or Lettermail. It caught my attention because it was noted as Small Packet Airmail. You'll need to look at which service has the most realistic delivery time so that you don't accidentally get stung with overshooting the estimated delivery time on that as it's untracked and you have only the buyer to say it came or didn't come by the date ebay picks and ebay will pick it depending on the service you've identified.

Re: 2015 Fall Seller Update

that's why it is marked as small packet or sometimes light packet, those give longer delivery estimates even though a lot of my mail goes out lettermail- I mentioned that in a post way back.  It's a shame that we have to manipulate things just to avoid getting marked as not delivered in time.  I've started watching my expedited and tracked package delivery times now and have already received one cheque from Canada Post for a delayed package and will probably get another since there is another one that is also delayed and I've just had to submit a ticket for.

Re: 2015 Fall Seller Update

The generic terms aren't an appropriate alternative: Standard International or whatever it is?

My only concern is that you might get a buyer who is finicky and then irritated when they receive 'lettermail' and think they paid for 'airmail'; it's honestly not my intention to tell you how to do things. I'm just looking at it from a different angle.

Re: 2015 Fall Seller Update

lettermail IS airmail, I even put on airmail stickers, all lettermail in Canada goes airmail without stickers so what would be the issue?

do you honestly think the average buyer knows the difference between small packet, light packet and lettermail?  most Canadians don't know the difference, heck, even postal workers can't give you a straight answer....

Re: 2015 Fall Seller Update

I would have to say the average buyer on ebay is also a seller who will be passably familiar with shipping choices and services, and if you find your item has been bought by one who's finicky, you may be leaving yourself open to some manner of complaint about your postal service used versus the one they believe they paid for. As this is your business, it's your call as to what you want to do. I'm merely flagging it for you.

Re: 2015 Fall Seller Update

I still don't see how a buyer would be upset.  It's not like I'm putting tracked or expedited and sending it as lettermail.   And since Canada doesn't have light packet or small packet options, the sellers would be from around the world and they would not be as well versed with our shipping options as Canadians would be.  I would find it difficult to be able to quote shipping rates/methods for any other country.

Re: 2015 Fall Seller Update

besides, judging by the feedback I've seen, most of the issues are shipping delays, by extending my shipping estimate hopefully that will help that situation immensely

Re: 2015 Fall Seller Update

i have been selling for years, and i still get U.S.A. buyers asking where is the tracking info, when you send from Canada for 3$ there is no tracking info.. so they do not understand the dynamics of cross border shipping, as they know they can send a package across the country with tracking for less than 3$..  also i think ebay should credit us with a succesfull shipment when there is no response from the buyer.. Why should it be credited as a non transaction.. as everyone knows if you get over 50% feedback left for you,you are doing well.  it seems  only  fair that after 2 months with no feedback you must assume that the item was received, and there is no problem,  so why do we get nothing for this.. but the one or other person who knows the system can complain and wreck it for all.  at least give us a credit for the ones who never respond,, because you know they are happy otherwise they would be the ones complaining, but they don't, they just don't like the extra time it takes to leave feedback...or they don't understand how to do it properly.. perhaps more effort should be spent on the customers, with perhaps a one button click to say they were happy with the transaction.. as opposed to the 4 question sliding scale you have now... end rant. put please consider..

Hi fellow Canadian sellers. I have really been trying to resist "expressing" myself regarding this latest Welcome to the 2015 Fall Seller Update discussion thread. i.e. gong show.

I am really trying to be professional here but at times will just state things as blatantly as it is. Please keep in mind it is my opinion and "read" on this situation. I can guarantee that ebay won't agree/appreciate some of this but again this is a conversation and imput.

Firstly, I'm not to happy with ebay's  arrogance , yes that is the only word that I feel fits.

Understand, I am not a Canada Post employee or cheerleader BUT this is Canada's main postal service like it or not. All levels of Canadian government also recognize it as such. I am waiting to hear from any level of Canadian government that now Ebay will be over-riding CP delivery times.

So ebay is now determining the delivery times for Canada Post ..... The ebay employee that is responding to most of this discussion stated something to the effect .... We have data, to back this up, not CP marketing HMMMMM Canada Post has been in the postal service business for @ 100 years and Ebay has been in the postal service for how many comparable years? Hello ebay, CP does studies, surveys, data collection also for more years than you have been in business but you know better. CP's business is moving the mail, is this also ebay's business so that they can even be in a position to make intelligent changes/choices. If ebay is putting themselves in this position then were is my local eBay postal depot, I hope that your rates are much cheaper than CP and You will adhere to your proposed changes, and having never been in the postal service business let me know how it works for you as obviously you can do much better than CP.

PART 2

So, as I said, I am not a CP employee nor do I receive any financial compensation from them but ebay is making me more responsible

for mail movement than the paid employees of CP. Ebay do you think that a CP employee goes home and stresses I sure hope the mail I sorted today gets promptly through the system and there are no hold ups along the way i.e. weather, truck breaks down etc. or I'll lose my job ...NO but you are putting Canadian sellers in that position.....REALLY

SO here's what it's all about, put fear in the Canadian sellers, and get more to use tracking = more $$$$$$ for eBay on the postage end. Come on ebay, you're really scraping the bottom of the barrel here and of course on the sellers back. Classic e.g.. last week I shipped an item to UK regular small packet air, $7.00 CDN. I asked the clerk out of curiosity, how much if I wanted to send it Tracked packet (cheapest) $46.01 CDN

Ebay, I think maybe go out into the woodshed, relax ... then rethink, better yet unthink this really arrigant, asinine proposal. I will end with this quote from

EBay Canada’s Andrea Stairs

SORRY, OUT OF SPACE  PART 3 AND THIS Really Interesting.

Just getting ready to shut down and was thinking wait, I sell Internationally so not only does eBay want me responsible for the expediency of Canada Post but all the other mail services in the countries I ship to. Ebay, that's a lot of responsibility to put on a person. Canada Post is responsible for itself and once the package leaves Canada, it becomes that countries mail services responsibility. ( yes, I checked this with CP) But with this new ...... I am responsible for every countries expediency or lack of.

So lets take this ridiculous scenario further ...... I use tracking .... also track it myself ....  package is going from Mississauga to NY City and see that it has been sitting in the Chicago hub for a week .... what now it's in Florida ...... now in Kansas City.... what back in Chicago ..... wow finally in NY   3weeks. I use this e.g.. as it actually happened about 6 months ago. Lucky the buyer was patient and was tracking it him self also.

So with the new plan I guess I'd really be hung out to dry by ebay ...how can this be on me. What is my recourse with the new plan .... drive/fly/walk to one of these postal hubs demand that they get my package and move it along quicker as per ebay rules. Or better yet in Chicago it was held up in customs ..... do the above and what probably get arrested and ebay will come and bail me out and say seller has to go by the rules .....

Ebay do you see how ridiculous this new plan is there has to be a more intelligent route for what you are trying to accomplish.

There are some lets say, irresponsible sellers out there, but certainly not the majority, so I guess we are all being tarred with the same brush.

I am available for consultation to adjust your business plan, for a fee, as you are already placing the world's postal services expediency on me without offering  financial compensation.

Re: 2015 Fall Seller Update

I just had a parcel go from Canada to NY, cleared NY on the 17th of October and got delivered in Illinois on the 23rd of December...I'm also lucky I had a very patient buyer and it was difficult because there was no tracking between NY and Illinois so we couldn't figure out where it was.  This will be my second refund cheque for shipping from Canada Post in 2 months.  I'm holding them to their "guaranteed" delivery.   If everyone held them responsible maybe they will find a better method to track in foreign countries.

As for your item to the UK, I had pointed out a while back that registered is an option at $17 on top of shipping instead of tracked.  Of course there is a whole list of countries where you can't even send anything tracked...

Re: 2015 Fall Seller Update

sorry, yes, November, all this Christmas talk has me a little frazzled.

By the way, I got this message today

Since you refunded postage I am unable to leave feedback

does anyone know if this is true?  if that's the case we should all refund 25 cents on a transaction and get no feedbacks..LOL-no feedbacks, no defects

Re: 2015 Fall Seller Update

If you issue a refund to a buyer for any reason before they leave feedback but after the item has shipped, the ebay app as offered on a mobile device will confuse it with 'free shipping' and grey-out the stars for that DSR. That's what your buyer probably meant, not that they couldn't leave actual feedback, just not Detailed Seller Ratings in that area. It's always been like this on mobile devices.
