5 Cent Listing Day - July 7th on EBay.ca

Received a notice about a 5 cent listing day, tomorrow, July 7th on EBay.ca for those who list shipping charges.

Too late- all my scheduled listings are up and running.

The money that would have been saved by listing tomorrow wouldn't even pay for my lunch. I hope the eBay shareholders appreciate my contributing to theirs!

Well it is a good time to put more stuff on from my store, this way it empties faster, and then I can list them on my new website;-)

I listed 20 items. The total amount of savings would have been about $6.oo.
ACTUAL fees- converted to Canadian $7.41 MINUS the $1.oo it would still cost- and that amounts to $6.41 in 'potential savings'!

So, for those who are so inclined to dine for $5.99- OK- this pays for lunch. (last lunch I had was just over $27.- and that's on the low side.) However- I am not going to spend an hour rescheduling previously scheduled auction listings- just to save $6.41

I am lazy- the time it takes to open the auction- edit the scheduled starting time- even at 2 to 3 minutes per auction for 20 auctions- and there goes an hour!

And I know there are those here who would lecture me on the lack of merit working for $6.41 an hour.

As for listing more items- I will be BUYING, BUYING, BUYING, and more BUYING! NOT WASTING TIME LISTING!!!

LOW COST (5¢) listing days are a golden opportunity to see a flurry of items listed- often by sellers who have no clue what they're doing- and all the items are likely closing at a NON-TRADITIONAL closing time!
What an opportunity to make money! BID! BID! BID! BUY! BUY! BUY!

For us- saving $6.41 may too be real money- but the savings aren't worth the time I would be spending to earn them.

pierrelebel- at some point in time, we actually had 500+ items listed on eBay. Not any more. It's a waste of time. Selling what sells is a good idea. Trying to be everything to everyone is not.
If someone really wants something they don't see on eBay chances are they will ask. No matter how bizarre- and out of this world- they will ask!

I find it funny how someone like the know it all lina-mallows, who has to get their 2 cents worth in on EVERY SINGLE POST here on the .ca forum actually admits that they only use .ca for only two items. If that is all that .ca is good for in your opinion, then why do you bother wasting your ‘all knowing’ breath here? Did you ever stop to think that perhaps there are other sellers out there that actually sold items of real value that maybe benefit from these 5 cent listing days?
Oh, and by the way, if you were selling us Canadians “Tim Hortons” .88 cent cards, you might do better than wasting your time on Starbucks!!!!!

To the sellers who are trying to learn something out there, my advice is to take advantage of these cheap listing days when they come up. They will only benefit you, especially when you are trying to move higher end items. I agree fully with Pierre that you can save some easy $, while boosting sales. We use each and every one of these cheap listing days to the fullest on each of our user IDs as much as we can. As for .com eBay? - Who cares!

Yes- there are those sellers who save real money. And then there are those who go off half-cocked- and list MULTIPLE ITEMS- IDENTICAL ONES- thinking that will have more exposure, and therefore more sales....silly sellers!

I would like some honest feedback as to how your sales IMPROVE- or not- during the 'so called' discount listing periods?

Do you really sell MORE ITEMS with BUY IT NOW?
DO you get higher prices for your auctioned items- noting that they would close at a 'non-traditional' time?
I would like some feedback here.

My belief is that LOW COST listing days are a way for eBay to add to the number of listing on the boards. Little more than that. Besides- as eBay makes LESS money per listing- by not having these SPECIAL DAYS- they would make more- right? So- there has to be something behind this nonsense.

We list TWO items on eBay.CA- as we are not easily able to send them to the US- and therefore DO NOT want exposure outside of Canada.

As for our business- we got to where we were- right here as POWER SELLERS- selling those 88¢ cards- as you so eloquently put it. And you know what- at the end of the day- we are happy.

As usual, you just took a million words to say absolutely nothing worthwhile or useful- for anyone here. It is very profitable to utilize 5 cent listing days to their fullest. I think you really do know this, but for some reason you seem to want to mislead other sellers who may be seeking good information. We, and thousands of other sellers reap great benefits from these special listing fee days. If you had more than two items to sell of any worth, you may come to realize this for yourself.

lina where does all the nastiness come from. I sell equally to Canucks and Yanks and do well for a semi part time job which I love. I am ticked of with both EBAY and PAYPAL though as they grab way to much of the pie in addition to getting ripped of by PAYPAL on the exchange rate. Given some equal competition EBAY would be in trouble,

Back to the 5 cent days, I have items that I will not let go for less than the opening bid as they are gems just waiting for the sophisticated collector that knows their worth to come along. I save these 15-20 items for discount days and slowly they get bought up. As to what EBAY has done to sellers by handing buyers carte blanche to ruin a good sellers FB rating, a big mistake EBAY needs to support their sellers the market place will seek its proper level if not tinkered with...Sharky...

Please understand I am not pointing the finger or naming names here. Just voicing an opinion as I feel everyone has a right to.

There is nothing wrong with someone having an opinion and even if they want to have an opinion on every board. These boards weren't just designed for people to swap great selling ideas. They are also a place where people can voice an opinion.

You certainly don't have to read all the opinions. You don't have to even agree with any of them. But it would be very nice if people weren't attacked for voicing their opinion.

The boards have been a great place to learn things and blow off steam at times. It's a place to laugh or whine. It's always your choice what you want to give or take here. But I would ask that you don't attack someone for their opinion. By all means disagree with their opinion but don't attack them personally.

I agree totally IF you place "Intelligent" or "Rational" in front of "Opinion".

But you're right, even dumb or irrational opinions are allowed but then so is pointing them out.

Though I thank those who can see through some of my cynicism, and defend my right to be cynical.
Not everyone is willing to jump through hoops while trying to adapt to a flawed system. Sometimes ignoring 'the elephant in the room' is the right thing to do!
eBay is not the ROSY PLACE that the pinks, and others would like you to believe it is.

Unlike some- I do actually research things.
I didn't get where I am by accident.
I was a POWER SELLER fro years, and I am again a POWER SELLER.
So- crunch all the numbers you want (and the numbers posted regarding our sales are not correct- do the math- would we be here?)- eBay is just ONE VENUE for us- and the rest of my business is just that- my business.

Out of respect for those around me- chemo, and alcohol don't mix- so I have no idea what a 'reasonable bar tab' ought to be. But the assertion that $636.26 ISN'T enough, is either a WHOLE LOT of inexpensive booze, or some VERY FINE STUFF! (OPUS1 anyone?)


Re: NON-TRADITIONAL CLOSING TIMES- over the years, it has come to pass that certain times of day, and certain days, perform better for some sellers, when selling specific items. As well- time change should be taken into account, if most of your buyers are split between the east coast, and west coast. If you close an auction at 9PM PST- then you have to ask yourself how many people on the east coast will be awake at MIDNIGHT, to be bidding on your items?
Not all auctions are created equal. REGARDLESS OF THE BEST MATCH NONSENSE- there are those that search/shop by CLOSING SOON, or NEWLY LISTED TIMES. For those people, the time you list, and the time your auction closes determines where it is when they search.

eBay rarely mentions this distortion in bidding volumes- sales are not at all times equally distributed.

ANYONE- PLEASE!! tell me the difference in value of an auction that closes at 1:30PM EST vs closing SUNDAY at 6:30pm PST, for a RARE COLLECTIBLE item?
Ask any knowledgeable , astute buyer, who's been around for a while, when the BEST BARGAINS are to be had- and it certainly won't be a FRIDAY,SATURDAY, or SUNDAY evening. Anyone care to challenge these facts?

I am not trying to mislead anyone here. Our/my experience is just that. And it may not apply to anyone else.
I am lazy- I don't have the time to send endless e-mails- or enclose business cards, or run to the Post Office numerous times a week.....some sellers here, can and do- and they do great! It's just not the thing lazy people c are about!

And- look at our numbers- 5.0/4.9/4.8/4.8 which far exceed any eBay 30day/12month average.
So- what are we doing so wrong- that everyone has an opinion on what's right? A ONE SIZE SOLUTION DOES NOT FIT ALL!

However- at the end of the day, having bought, and sold over 5000+ items (actually well over 6000 with other ID;s)- I do have my opinions- AND YES- I will express them. It so nice when those who don't c are take the time to comment! Remember- it doesn't matter what they say- as long as they get name right. (and I am not even fussy about that!)
