Auctiva and picture limitations

I thought I would post this in case any one it thinking of switching to Auctiva if they have a lot of listings.

If you have a lot of listings and they are imported to Auctiva, all pictures will be garbage. Auctiva has a 400 Pixel limitation on their servers when images are imported.

In other words, if you want to relist all pictures will be too small for listing. That also goes for any active listings the become unsold.

The only way around this issue is to upload all new images for every listing on Auctiva that was imported. If you don't do this, you have wasted your time and money. To relist a lot of images will be a lot of work

Auctiva does not mention this issue anywhere on their site.

Re: Auctiva and picture limitations

If one prepares a new listing on Auctiva...

Photos are uploaded from a file on one's computer...

The photo on a new listing on Auctiva  is the size of  the photo on a seller's computer.

This listing gets uploaded to eBay...

A record of active listings on eBay is available on Auctiva....Accessed under ...... Listings > Active .....on Auctiva

This list is a direct link to the listing on  eBay... and does not appear to be a record of listings on Auctiva.... but   is a direct link to the listing on eBay.

Auctiva serves as an excellent and very quick way to prepare listings  that are to be up-loaded to eBay.

Re: Auctiva and picture limitations

Turbolister was used to prepare listings until August 2015..... That was when Turbolister "died" for me.

Switched to Auctiva and it was very easy to prepare listings for upload to eBay.....Specifically when compared to Turbolister.

Now...

How did you find those photos with a 400 pixel size?

Because I could not find photos of that size on Auctiva...

Re: Auctiva and picture limitations

From the Auctiva FAQ

Our image uploaders cannot upload images larger than 10MB.  We also restrict the dimension size based on what you have selected during upload or in your Account Preferences (1280 x 1024 or 1920 x 1440 px) ...

Re: Auctiva and picture limitations

So I have a dumb question.

My scanner doesn't have pixels.

Or to be more exact it describes scans as "dpi".

Most of my scans are 300 dpi, although I use 1200 dpi for high value postage stamps.

How does dpi compare with pixels? Is there a chart somewhere, like comparing metric to imperial measures?

I use scans because most of my items are flat and because I can't figure out how to get the pictures from either my phone (which is a lot smarter than me) or my camera which I haven't used in a couple of years.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

DPI stands for Dots Per Inch which technically means printer dots per inch. Today it is a term often misused, usually to mean PPI, which stands for Pixels Per Inch. So when someone says they want a photo that is 300 dpi they really mean that they want 300 ppi.

So dutchman can check settings and re-import the lot for a greater chance at success with this?

Re: Auctiva and picture limitations

Directly from auctiva for the non believers.

Thank you for your response.

I would like to inform you that when you list items from Auctiva, you would have a copy of the original image in the image management page within Auctiva which you would uploaded at the time of creating the listing. So when the listing ends, user's are able to relist the item as that image is already been uploaded in Auctiva.

Since all your listings are been imported from eBay ( closed listing ) and as these listing were not originally posted from Auctiva so the original images are not there in the image management page. So when the eBay images which were originally posted in eBay were imported to Auctiva, eBay only sent us the smaller version of the images.

Now in order to post the listing from Auctiva, you would need to first resize the image in Auctiva account. To do so hover the mouse over the 'Images' tab and click on 'Manage'. Then find the image, select it and click the 'Edit' tab. On the ensuing page change the dimension for the longer side to 500 pixels and click 'Save' to save the changes.

If you uncheck the "Enable Optional eBay Gallery Images" box and then reselect the box, the new images will auto-fill into the Optional eBay Gallery Images Or you will need to either upload a image.

I have attached a link below on how to edit your images in Auctiva.

http://www.auctiva.com/help/tutorial.aspx?id=edit-images

New listings are fine as you are uploading original images to Auctiva. importing existing listings is what I am talking about. (I keep trying to tell them they are active listings, not closed but they don't listen)

Here is one of their imported picture info

$_1.JPG?set_id=880000500F

If you use the url, you can see how truly small it is.

If you still don't believe me, I can add the original to this post so you compare. I really am not sure why there is so much disbelief with readers and posters.

“They destroy pictures”

11/21/15

They have a 400px software limitation that destroys your picture so you have to go back and fix it, this happens in circumstances that they finally explained to me after much obfuscation, and in other circumstances they still refuse to explain. They haven't acknowledged, apologized or attempted to fix the problem. Parts of auctiva are first rate, customer service is quick, at least, but overall they are a totall nightmare.
No 'cointains' search either, and other problems.

Re: Auctiva and picture limitations

And another reply to me from Auctiva

Thank you for getting back to us and I certainly understand you point here.

As mentioned in the previous email, once the listing posted from Auctiva as active listings and once the item ends it goes to the closed listing page. When the ended items move to the closed listing page, Unfortunately, eBay will only provide us with the smaller version of the images at 300px X 400px rather than the full size images.

When this happens, you will need to reupload full size versions of the images after importing in your information to avoid any possible issues with posting the imported listing as a new listing.

If there is anything further I can do to assist you, please don't hesitate to ask!

Sincerely,
Auctiva Support

Any more doubters?

Re: Auctiva and picture limitations

If you want, I can send you the link to all 1300+ pictures and you can check every one.

I could put the post on bold as well, but I am more polite with other posters

Re: Auctiva and picture limitations

And if you read my post before responding, you will see it is imported listings, not prepared listings. There is a huge difference. Now please take the time to reread the original post and all the rest of my posts on this thread!

Re: Auctiva and picture limitations

This is not what the post is about. I am fully aware of new listings created as Used Auctiva a lot longer than you have.

This post is about IMPORTED LISTINGS, not newly created listings so please don't post unrelated comments.

And yes, I am getting annoyed at posts from experienced people that they make without reading and are totally unrelated.

Re: Auctiva and picture limitations

And the latest I just received from Auctiva

Funny how neither Turbo Lister or inkFrog has an issue with Ebay sending small pictures, only Auctiva.

Maybe they need to rewrite their software to remove that restriction.

Re: Auctiva and picture limitations

Started on Auctiva late August 2015...

Still learning..... having been using the basics

Under Listings  I see Active... where each listing currently on eBay  is linked to the listing on eBay...  These listings have not been saved to Auctiva.. just a link

Then I tried to save a listing...

Did save it... but it showed up as a mess

The conclusion is that one should save all Auctiva listings that were submitted to eBay....  and keep them as future templates..

This I have already done with several listings, and prepared new listings from saved templates.
