Can you, or should you, report someone asking for $ to cover paypal fees?

So, I am looking for a copy of Howard the Duck. Anyway, Cdn seller has it....but charges for using PP. Thought this wasn't allowed? This seller is not a newbie--well over 600 FB rating. It is in all the listings. I am not usually a "reporter" but that bugs me....should I report? Should I just say "Whatever"?

I really don't see the issue -- there's plenty of stores that charge you $0.25 to use the debit machine.

If they want to run their business that way, all the more power I say.

Who says they shouldn't charge for using PayPal? PayPal? It sounds like a ridiculous policy to enforce HOW their sellers earn their cash, just to try to convince buyers to use PayPal.

IMHO.

I don't see a problem with it. It's a fee to the sellers and therefore is a cost. Any store out there charges with high prices on the items to cover their costs. It is the way of business in operation! The thing is as long as the seller is charging reasonably....at the end if they charge more than needed, then you have the choice not to buy from this seller. i trust that most sellers are charging reasonably, and that's how they stay in business, because no one is to keep buying from a seller who charges unreasonable high fees or prices!

Well, I am not going to report it. It seems like too much effort for such a little thing. I think he asks for .50, which is about right anyway. Personally....I would rather he have that ccost "hidden" in his handling fee.

I don't see a problem with it either. It gives the buyer quite an advantage because they get to use their credit card for their purchase which gives them a lot of protection.

However, I think the fact that Paypal charges their fee for both credit card and non-credit card payments to be ridiculous. The fees add up. On a $200 payment, the fee is around $6-7!

we don't have to report it, because someone else will. there are a lot of others policing ebay and report it to ebay. this is not allowed by paypal. you can offer a discount for non-paypal payment but you can not add a surcharge for paypal payment.

To respond directly to the OP

If you are a seller you should not report this and see if you can do a similar thing, if you can't or don't want to do the same then at least you will look better to buyers than a seller who does have a "paypal fee".

If you are a buyer you should complain loudly because it's an obvious violation of the PayPal user agreement.

You have to decide which side of the fence you are on and act accordingly.

Well, I have only ever reported one person. A big PS who obvioulsy shilled me. I don't consider myself ebay police. I have had my listings turned in for some of the most inane reasons---my first seller listings, when I had a total of 4 feedbacks, was turned in for something or other. Can't remember what.

I should not have posted...I did not want to sound like an irritating tattletale. I wish I could pass off some of the costs of PP to my customers. But to remain competitive in shipping prices, I can't add handling fees. I just charge in US$ what the Canada Post listed price is...it does cover some of the exchange I lose.

It didn't come across that way to me.

Well, if you were accepting a Mastercard/Visa at 2.4%, the fees would have been $36.00. That's not a huge increase...

Yes, it's very much against the Paypal agreement we sign. AND it's also not allowed by Visa/Mastercard for a vendor to charge extra, period.

Should you report it? That's up to you. It IS in flagrant violation.

It is permitted in england and some other countries but is, as far as i know, not only against policy but against the law. It would be up to you if you want to report it. I would pay but politely inform them that it is not permitted.

Just don't use your selling ID to do so.
