I am new to selling. Calculated shipping came up higher than necessary, not sure how to change it. Can I just get buyers to contact me about shipping and just adjust it on invoice? if so how do I make sure invoice isn't automatically sent?

Ebay sends buyer a won email. Buyer can pay from or from their myebay as long as shipping is stated. See your other post.

This happens all the time, so what I do is add a note at the end of my listings to "please contact me for exact shipping." I always adjust the shipping cost on the invoice when I send it out, and this works well for me. It has happened that ebay calculated $93.00 to send a very small light item to Sweden, when it actually cost $6.00!!!!

First you should be reviewing your listings as they are accepted toto see if the S&H is reasonable. Just click on the destination (I use 90210 for USA and Australia for International) and see what is said.
If it doesn't seem reasonable, go back and Revise your listing. It hasn\t indexed yet, so you are not really losing any time.
A $93 charge that could be reduced to $6 sounds like the seller has chaosend ExpressPostInternational (very fast, insured, tracked and Delivery Confirmed) ifor an item that could ship by LetterPost or LightPacket (very fast, no insurance or tracking available).
It is very easy, especially when using templates to list, to overlook the service on the template, but carelessness can cost you a sale.
You may be interested in looking at the various threads on Delivery Confirmation and Insurance. There is a lively discussion about the need for these options, especially considering the high cost of "tracked" services.
One important point is that the international postal system is actually very good at getting letters and parcels to their destinations. Claims of slow delivery also seem, in my considerable experience, to be more likely from eBay customers than from other venues.
