First time help needed

I wanted to buy an item but it said the seller did not list if they shipped internationally. They are in the US and I am in Canada.  I found this out after I tried to buy it and it was in my cart saying Ebay was buying my first item. I was thinking that I could not buy it and paid more for the same thing from another seller.  I tried to remove the first one from my cart but instead said I would pay latter I guess cause that’s what it is saying now.  Still not sure how I could have even done that.  The first one is still showing in my activity and I don’t know what to do.  I contacted the seller and found out they would ship it to Canada but it would cost more.  I explained what happened but have not heard back.  Got an email from Ebay saying in the header they were buying my first item but I don't see any other mention of it in the email. My first time using ebay.  Any advice or help would be great.

Re: First time help needed

Maybe you can ask one of the sellers if they would mind cancelling the transaction.

Re: First time help needed

Contact the first seller, the one who is not interested in foreign transactions and ask for a Mutual Cancellation. This will release both of you from the transaction and returns the fees he was charged for selling. When you receive the request, accept it promptly. Leave polite feedback ("Thank you for your help to a newbie." is both friendly and not too explicit about what the help was.) He can also leave you feedback which will help your online reputation.

Many US sellers do not bother with foreign transactions. The USA is the world's largest economy, and many Americans are either xenophobic or paranoid.

If the seller does not specifically state the cost of shipping to Canada, you can ask BEFORE BIDDING, what that cost would be. Again with such a large market the seller may just never have thought of selling to Canada. And make sure the cost is by USPS/Canada Post and is specific (not "well, I think the cheapest way would be around $5" you need " I can ship by First Class International for $6.78 which is an Air Mail service.)

There are other pitfalls, but if the seller gives you a firm quote and will use the postal system, you should be fine.

Ummm- what made you think the shipping cost would be the same for Canada as it is for the USA? If the seller wants Delivery Confirmation, a long story in itself, a parcel that costs $5 to ship domestically could easily cost $20-$25 to ship to Canada.

Conversely, a parcel that ships within Canada for $3.75 could cost $$10.35 to send to the USA, depending on the service chosen.

Re: First time help needed

The seller filed a no pay on me now I can't email him or write a review.  Can't seem to even respond to the complaint other than pay and I don’t even know what he is going to charge me to ship.  What a bad idea getting involved with this site was.  Never again.

Re: First time help needed

Some sellers are comfortable with giving Mutual Cancellations others are either wary of them (because the unhappy buyer can leave feedBack ) or are just grumpy about customers who start a transaction that they cannot or will not finish.

You did not read the listing and as a result bid on an item which the seller did not offer to Canada. When he gave you the opportunity to buy, which he was not required to do, you refused it. To get the fees back that eBay has charged him, he has to take some action, and he chose the Unpaid Item Dispute. This will get his fees back and you will not be allowed to leave feedback.

That you had bought elsewhere is irrelevant to the original transaction.

I would not be offering the Mutual Cancellation either.
