Global Shipping Program a Scam!

I'm not sure WHO started this stupid Global Shipping Program on eBay, but it is so scammy! I've been on ebay.ca for over 16 years, and have never had a problem with Customs, or had to pay any Import fees. Now with adding this new program, it actually automatically and unecessary adds excessive supposed "Import" charges upon check out, which would not have otherwise applied? I will not purchase from any Seller who partakes in such a rip off system. Not to mention, if there's a problem -who actually refunds the excessive Import amount by way of refund? I just want to purchase my item and pay for the postage, -let me deal with Customs if there are any charges. I've had packages delivered at $65.00 from the U.S. and didn't have to pay any Custom/Import fees. Another way for ebay to sabatouge Sellers because I know well too many who will not buy from any Seller who partakes in this scammy program. Sellers: for your own sake, -go back to the old way! Seeing as it's the Canada Border Services Agency and not Canada Post that's charging the taxes and duty for a postal import, it would be up to CBSA as to whether Canada Post charges and collects that C$9.95 fee.  My guess is that it barely covers any costs incurred.

I probably won't buy anything from a seller using express shipping, be it a Canadian seller or a seller from outside the country, in the near future either.  My choice.

You won't buy from a Canadian seller that uses express shipping? Not even if the shipping is free??

I believe I said "probably".  😉

At any rate, as it's likely that a seller offering "free" express shipping would somehow be able to afford to absorb the shipping price on the item, they would likely be selling an item that's out of my price range to begin with, anyway.

My point, though, is that buyers need to do the number-crunching and decide whether or not the GSP makes sense with the item they're considering purchasing.  I doubt that most Canadian eBayers buy mobile phones from the United States, but an $18 charge for shipping a phone through the GSP on top of the taxes charged makes a lot more sense to me than a $100 commercial carrier charge where it's unclear whether or not taxes due are advanced by the carrier.

Just because the GSP is a wash with a single purchase a buyer has made through it because the seller didn't use it appropriately doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to be a complete disaster for all sales that buyer could make through the GSP.

By the way, you probably know this already but according to your listings, you offer "expedited" shipping, not "express".  Different animal.  😄

"I bought a twenty dollar pair of shorts"

You highlighted one of the major problems of the program.

American sellers have been told by eBay NOT to use the program for "stuff" selling for less than $50 on average.  Unfortunately, eBay never set up proper procedures to advise sellers and block such listings from using GSP.

eBay is aware of the problem and, so far, has done nothing, absolutely nothing to correct it.
