How to limit quantity purchased

Hey,

I just have a quick question, I like to have specials on certain days where I list an item with a large quantity and for an amazing price. Is it possible to limit the amount each user can buy? For instance if I list an item with quantity 10, can I make it so each unique user can buy only 3 max? I am not sure if this is possible but it would be great if eBay could implement a feature like this. It helps because instead of one user buying all 10, I can get more exposure from different users having a chance to buy some.

Regards,

I do not believe that you can do that.

The only way around this is to list only a few at a time and to hope the buyer does not catch on that you have relisted.

We have done this a few times. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it did not.

You can limit the number of Listings a buyer can purchase but not the number of items within a multi-quantity listing.

I wonder if it would be against eBay rules to specify this limit in the listing such as every purchase above the limit would be surcharged to the full price?

For example - listing is for $9.90. But every additional unit above limit would be surcharged to the full price of $19.90 via mandatory invoice.

I am guessing a lot of people would start to complain if they got charged more for an item especially those who use eBay. I can only imagine this leading to a negative feedback one day.

There are a couple options that would just make sense for eBay to have, I really hope they consider this as an option in the future it would really help gain more exposure on eBay, because as of now the second I put my specials up they get bought out by 2 or 3 people.

If you enjoy paying listing fees then put up single quantity listings and in your settings (MY eBay - Preferences) you can limit the number of purchases.

Preferences) you can limit the number of purchases.

That would also limit the amount of items that ANY buyer could buy from ANY of your listings, even the ones not on special and would cause more loss of sales than what you would gain by attempting to restrict sales on some items.

Raise your pricing on the sale items as they are obviously too low 🙂

I agree 100%, loss leaders are to get people in the door....buyers on eBay are already "in the door".

You might be better off with a special offer instead of a special price....free shipping or buy 10 get one free or some such.

Personally I'm not big on discounting. When I ran B&M retail we did advertising and promotions but in that case the SUPPLIER paid for the ads and discounted the cost price. (which is sort of what eBay's double discount for free shipping thing is all about).
