I sent something expedited and it takes ages

I sent an expedited parcel on Nov 14 from BC and it will be delivered on Nov 23/16 in Waterloo.  I sent the buyer an email tonight and this is what I said.

When I checked with the PO and asked about expedited shipping they said it goes by truck, I thought it might have been horse and buggy by how long it was taking. Expedited is faster than regular parcel, with regular parcels they must use a donkey with a buggy.

I thought it was supposed to be deliver in 5 days, not 7.

1-7 days (+6 days for remote areas) (+1 day for the holiday season).

If you sent via expedited parcel then you can file a request with Canada Post to get your shipping $$ back if it arrives late. Unless they've changed things you can either file via phone or online through the Canada Post website.

Delivery standards (see section 4)

Expedited delivery time matrix (table 14 in section 4.3, used with table 11) gives exact days.

I sent it through Chitchat, so I would not be the sender although I paid for it.

I believe you have to add one or two delivery days when using C.C. for in-Canada shipments.

They may be "piggy-backing" with a high volume dealer who would not have possession of your parcel until the next business day and then, they may not get your package into the C.P. system until the day after that.

If I am wrong, just remember how much you paid for my advice.

Where does the tracking suggest the delay occurred?

Why use ChitChat to send domestic Expedited Parcel?

Why use ChitChat to send domestic Expedited Parcel?

Convenience?   Pricing (for some) ?

If it takes twice as long to get there because it changes hands too many times, it cases to be convenient at least for the buyer.

And if you can't get your money back for failure-to-meet a service guarantee because you're no longer the shipper, then it's not costing any less.

I don't understand. That's the reason I asked.

It was not twice as long in arriving, it was 2 business days longer than anticipated but, I believe was still within the eBay delivery estimate?

In my case, the savings and convenience using this ship method far outweigh any "failure-to-meet" money back guarantees that may crop up.

1) Flat rate cost.

2) Only slightly slower than expedited parcel than when dealing directly with Canada Post.

I can see it as appealing to those that list on ebay.COM who need to list using a flat rate for Canada.

But you need to be close enough to the reshipper to use them.

-..-

Chitchat's Ontario location rates:

$7.60 per piece +$2.00 per KG

2 to 8 day delivery.

Includes liability insurance of up to $100 CAD.

Dimensional charges do apply.

StallionExpress,ca (Ontario)

$7.50 per piece + $0.90 per pound (0.45 kg)

Comparison (with a 600g, one province away Expedited parcel) :

ChitChat: $10.85

Stallion: $10.50

Solutions for Small Business Canada Post basic rate: $12.11 (*)

purchased via paypal: $10.56 (*)

(*) for one province away, up to $4.70 higher for further away

I go direct with Canada Post for most M, L or K postal codes but for anything else I send them through ChitChat.

I do it because it puts more money in MY pocket. It does of course take a bit of extra time and there is a 2 - 3 day delay in finding out the tracking number (should anyone care).

I'm not sure exactly who ChitChat is using for their domestic stuff but essentially it's like FedEx SmartPost, the private carrier moves the packages to the Canada Post centre closest to the recipient and then hand it over to CP for the "last mile" delivery. They are paying the local rate and probably getting the highest level discount from Canada Post, enough to cover their costs of transport, give ChictChat and save me money.

I know one thing, I can't send a 500g Expedited from Toronto to Vancouver for $8.60 if I go direct with CP but I can through ChitChat, for this type of shipment the discount on shipping is probably more than 30%. That's 30% I get instead of giving it away to CP.

If Canada Post was willing to give me a Level 10 discount then I would not be using ChitChat. Unfortunately the volume requirements for a Level 10 discount are WAY above anything I could ever meet.

I now know that chit chat adds a day or two but, I saved about $5 on that shipment, now that I know that I can adjust my expectations and let the buyer know.

I send all my US mail first class with tracking through chit chat, also all my international mail.  I save about $2 to $3 per item.  All US mail is delivered within 4 business days with tracking, even if I didn't save $2.00 on each one, I would still do it just for the speed and the tracking.  So if I am shipping say 40 items through chit chat, I save about $100 to $125 dollars a month just on shipping costs.  The one of Canadian orders are sent oversized letter mail through Canada Post.    It's only the multi orders for Canada that will go through Chit Chat and have the 2 day delay.

Interesting. We don't have a service like this in my region. I'm not certain I'd view the savings in dollars, however, to be worth the extended handling time. I don't like to relinquish that control. Extra days means more danger of Late Shipment Defects which I have such an aversion toward that I eliminated all Small Packets for Tracked Packet. That, and I don't worry about Items Not Received any longer for those things.
