Is it normal for Ebay to take final listing fees from my PayPal a month later?

Hello,

I'm quite new to this Ebay/PayPal thing and don't really understand the final listing fees. I have sold several items through out July and August. Just today, (August 15th) I receive a PayPal invoice that I paid to eBay International AG a fee of $46.00. If I understand this is automatic as I agreed to the agreement.

My first question is why are they charging me the next month? I sold my items in early July and a month later I have to pay fees? Also, please correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Ebay already take fees off automatically (off the item and shipping for it) when it sells right away? Why am I paying more fees a month later?

When I sold an item for $425.00 in July. On my PayPal it says that a fee of $12.63 has been taken off. So the total I received is $412.37 Why are they taking more fees now? Would appreciate an explanation. Am I missing something or is the eBay International AG payment I had to pay through paypal something to do with fraud? Basically from what I can see I'm paying 2 fees. One when the item sells (right away the fee is deducted off the price of the item) and then another fee a month later taking even more?

Thank You!

Yes, the $12.63 was only the paypal fee.  Your ebay fees would be around $42.50 plus 10% of the shipping amount.

Welcome to ebay!

Thanks very much! Would be nice for invoices to be included into the item when it is sold instead of having it done separately. That way there is no surprises. To be honest, I wasn't expecting that amount to be taken off. Especially since PayPal/eBay are together. Although, now I heard they are splitting up? Not sure if that changes anything.

Thank You!

For Paypal you can view each transaction and see what the fee was for that transaction.

For eBay...

Under My eBay, click on the.... Account Tab (Upper left corner of the page) ... then go to ......Seller Account.

and then to many options...

Under view all account activity you can  see each transaction, with fees separate for the item sold  and then fees in relation to the shipping cost

------------------------------------------------------------

Both eBay and Paypal show the fees for each transaction.....

Then comes the day when fees are totalled and you see the total bill.....  For me this is the 15th of each month.

while  I believe for some sellers  it is the first of the month  ( but not too sure of this first of the month option)

My invoices from ebay run from Aug. 1 to 31 but payment for those is taken automatically on Sept. 15 via paypal.

I have often thought the same thing as the original poster, that is: 'Why can't final value fees be withdrawn from the proceed of each sale automatically?' and the answer is that final value fees are assessed the moment the item is sold but final value fees on shipping aren't assessed until it is marked as shipped and the two might be several days apart. Thirdly, there is also the possibility of a Cancel Order or Unpaid Item request which would alter the seller's final value totals for the item so, in the end, ebay would have to charge and then possibly refund a million one- and two- and three-dollar changes to sellers each month for every time an unpaid case or cancellation request is filed.

As irritating as it is to be hit for a big bill halfway through the next month for items that sold weeks ago (and the proceeds from payments for which are long gone) I can't see any logical way around it from a business standpoint. I have considered paying final value fees (plus FV on shipping on the item) each time an item is paid and shipped and therefore making, like, 100 individual ebay seller fees payments to ebay per month but that also seems like a lot of trouble. More than it is worth.

Fees are a necessary evil of selling. If not to ebay and paypal, it would be to fund other online store subscriptions and pay for credit payment processing.

My eBay billing goes form the 15th of one month to the 15th of the next and that total is paid at the end of a month.

This has been my eBay cycle for over 10 years....

Paying eBay fees in US dollars  with my Paypal balance in US dollars works well without any exchange to Canadian dollars required...

My Mastercard follows a 15th to 15th cycle  with payment due by about the first week in the next month........  21 days after the 16th of a month.

The eBay and paypal split didn't change anything with the fees. You pay the paypal transaction fee when you get paid via PayPal, then you pay 10% final value fee (for using eBay to sell your item ) on your monthly invoice. Has been like that for as long as I remember.

Paypal's transaction fee is about 3 % on the total of item price plus shipping

Plus a surcharge of a few percentages for currency conversion where applicable.
