So there is nothing stopping someone from buying 3 x 25 cent stamps plus 1 x 10 cent stamp over the counter and making $0.85 in postage? Bypassing the purchase of a p stamp at a $1.00.

Not that many would do this. I know I would just to protest the stupid surcharge if I was a casual user of Canada Post.

It seems like the occasional user of Canada Post gets charged more. Regular parcel users have the higher rates than expedited parcel within Canada. A two tiered system.

Of course it is a two tiered system, personal versus business. LOL, I do not know why I posted that. My excuse is that I have a cold coming on and my head is so out of it right now.

Funny you said this.  I was just reading your previous post and thinking: this isn't the usual logical conclusion that 'poco' reaches.  LOL

Yeah, Canada Post doesn't want those old ladies with the contents of their decades-old penny jar in their purses trudging up to the counter and buying one single stamp anymore.  That will doubtless be me one day soon...holding up a whole line of big-spenders while I search for the last penny to make up $1.00.  Woman Very Happy

So sorry you're fighting a cold -- would it make you feel any better to know the rest of us in the country are freezing right now?  Our woodpile in the basement is getting pathetically small, in fact my husband says 3 more days at best.  If it doesn't warm up soon, we'll be burning the furniture in our furnace.  BRRRR, humbug.  Why did I leave Victoria??  Oh yes, the $700K housing prices.  Smiley Happy

Re: New letter mail prices

A couple of weeks ago I asked the clerk at our postal outlet if the P stamps would still be valid or if there would be an extra charge.  He said they would still be valid for the new rate.

Although it is a postal outlet in a store they have very knowledgeable  employees who work full time in the postal outlet only.

Yes, that's 100% correct. P stamps always retain their value. That's why those incompetents running Canada Post (into the ground) were so desperately trying to recall as many of the P stamps as they could earlier this year.

Yeah,  I bought 300 of them one day and the P.O. pulled them from the outlet the very next day.

Re: New letter mail prices

What was approved and what wasn't? CanadaPost document has no info on oversize lettermail in the document dated yesterday:

http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/assets/pdf/business/price_service_changes_2014_en.pdf

Does that mean oversize lettermail stays the same ?
