Paypal claim - need your help.

Hello, a few months ago I filed a Paypal claim against a seller for an item not as described. Paypal had me send the item back to the seller to receive a full refund. So I sent it back only to have Paypal tell me the buyer didn't have any funds in their Paypal account so I was SOL but they would attempt to recover the funds (still waiting - buyer no longer registered).

Well, filed another claim recently (different seller) and Paypal just sent me the same note "to send the item back for a refund". Needless to say I'm a bit skeptical so I called Paypal to see if the seller even had the funds in their account - of course they wouldn't tell me.

Wondering what you folks would do?

Thanks
Andy

If seller still sells, more likely they have funds on Paypal account. At your first case seems person bailed out of the system - not a typical case I would say.

In the first claim, have you spoken to a supervisor or that person's supervisor?

If it's not a lot of money they can issue a Good Will. With each level you speak to the more they can write off. Keep in mind they will take into account your write off worthiness.

I would suggest that you speak to a supervisor about both claims. Ask them what is the point of you paying for return shipping when the other claim is waiting to see if they can recover funds.

I am very sorry but front agents don't quite know what to do about claims.

I had 1 claim last month that I was only disputing $1.86 for item not received. The total order was over $42.00. PayPal requested I send back the item I had not received back to the seller. I kid you not. I spoke to a front agent who then told me I had to send the entire order back to get a credit of $1.86. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I said "you want me to send $40.00 of product, which will cost about $20.00 so I can get a credit for $1.86?" Agent confirmed that is what I had to do.

I requested a supervisor, explained the issue and he immediately credited me the $1.86 and said the claim system messed up.

But then I read in the paper today about a thief from the US who tried to break a liquor store window with a rock to steal a bottle of $9.00 bottle of wine. When the rock wouldn't break the window he went to a nearby hardware store bought a $11.00 hammer to break the window. I'm wondering did he previously work for PayPal...lol.

Rule 1: Always pay with a credit card so you can reverse the charges.

Rule 2 Ignore PayPal 😉

I agree. My only issue with this is that you would ideally have to open a second paypal account because you would otherwise have to empty your paypal account on a regular basis which is not always practical considering fee and exchanges issues. At one time I did but found it was giving me a lot of headaches (although at this moment I can't seem to remember what). Maybe I need to re-evaluate this....but it would sure be nice if paypal would let us decide how we want to pay and not force us to pull from our cash balance. They know those of us that have cash in our paypal accounts are likely sellers so as usual are treating as with the same value and consideration as they always do!

Just yesterday I actually did clear out my paypal account to pay for something with a credit card from an off eBay seller that I know is slow to ship (6-10 weeks) and doesn't respond to emails. Even her phone info with paypal is invalid. (I know what you are thinking but there's more to the story).

Then do it....very painless and perfectly acceptable by PayPal to have one account for business and one for personal.

For your personal account you will need a different credit card but since the account is only for payments you don't need to add a different bank account. If you don't make payments from your selling account you can remove your credit card and switch it to your personal account if you only have one credit card.

You will also need a second eMail address one that is different from your business account.

I do just that, transfer the PayPal funds to another account, but it's not my account so there is no alternative for PayPal.... Of course you'd have to have someone you trust implicitly 😉
