Hi,
Searching forums but have not found answer for a couple of questions:
We currently use the CanadaPost EST for creating our shipments but looking at jumping over to Paypal shipping for additional savings however, I have a question that I've been unable to find the answer to that I'm hoping someone can help me with...
On occasions, a few days after shipping via EST, I sometimes see either a small additional charge or a small credit to the credit card we have associated with EST (I presume these are for errors with dimensions / weights). Does anyone know how these are handled when using paypal shipping? do they just take additional funds / credit overpayments to our paypal balances?
Thanks
James

Paypal is just a payment service. They do have a couple of deals with Canada Post, so we get a small discount on some services of around 5% and 20-25% off Expedited. (It depends on how you calculate the percentage.)
It sounds as if Canada Post has been reweighing and remeasuring your parcels then adjusting your credit card payments. Which sounds unlikely given the number of parcels they handle in a day.
Paypal takes you at your word. If you say the parcel fits the criteria for Small Packet Air and print a label for that, PP will not "adjust" anything. (If you underestimated the dimensions and CP catches it, two more unlikely scenarios, CP sends the parcel back to you for correct postage.)
Frankly, the scenario you mention with EST is scarey. I'd be asking CP's Customer Service what gives. In a letter, not a phone call.

Credits/debits due to pricing changes? Wouldn't count on canadapost correcting any errors made by the sender, its in your own interest to be as accurate as possible with paypal/ebay/cp/est shipping, mislabeled items can bounce back and/or charges forwarded to the recipient upon delivery = unhappy buyers = loss of sellers account. If you sell USA or overseas, have to also factor in that those postal services may react in different ways to a mislabeled parcel, easier to just properly weight, measure and ship without worries.

No,they stopped charging recipients for underpaid items long ago. If its EST/paypal printed and under paid they just charge the method of payment for the extra. If its short stamped they return to sender (though high odds it just ends up delivered)
After lee valley told battle with CP they announced they would refund overpaid self printed items to the method of payment the same way they charge when its short. Ive never gotten a refund, though its unlikely Id ever overpay. But Ive never seen anyone mention getting a refund from a paypal label either, so I wouldn't count on getting one. I have been charged when short, but not as often as I would expect (usually just guess at the weight/dimension, on the low side)

Have you been charged extra on Paypal after you have shipped the item? I've never had that happen. If there is no barcode on the label, how would they even know what dimensions had been inputted?

yes, charge shows up in paypal after shipped on expedited ones. I guess they'd just send the other ones back IF they caught it. Once its in the other country they don't care what you paid cp.
Ive had a few stamped ones returned marked due though the amount didn't make any sense

That's interesting, I never knew that could happen. I always measure and weigh everything though so that could way I haven't seen any charge backs.
Every once in a while I get back a light or small packet package with a paypal label with nothing written on it. It looks like they deliver it to me thinking that I am the receiver instead of the sender ..duh.

We are pretty accurate with our shipments, but on occasions (1-2 times per month) I do see small extra charges on the credit card we have linked in EST, and I have seen a few credits over the years when we have made mistakes.
I just don't want to have the scenario that we make a mistake using paypal, the shipping is short and the item is returned to us due to insufficient postage and Canada Post have no way to bill the additional amounts...

the extra charge will work the same as the EST labels, so might as well get the paypal discount
