These bidders who change their mind are costing me $$!

The latest in a group of non-paying or I-changed-my-mind bidders: Please cancel my purchase because my dog jumped up and made me hit buy on my ipad! Yes, I cancelled through ebay because that is the best thing to do in that situation. However, I just realized that it was an item just recently listed and through no fault of mine I now have to relist and pay new listing fees!

I am getting tired of all these people causing me extra fees. It was never like this before. I guess its the New ebay. Sigh....

Wow. That is one of the strangest reason I've seen. Do they realise that they have to click twice on the "Buy Now" button before it becomes a purchase? No way the dog made them do that twice in a few seconds. I'm sorry for you!

An iPad has a touch screen so it is very easy to "click" by mistake. When you scroll, you move your finger sliding up or down the screen. If you "stutter" in the slide, you can "click" select an option by mistake. I find the iPad to be a great device but navigating on it takes experience and great care in touching the screen otherwise selections are made by mistake. Quite different than using a mouse. A finger tip is large compared to a mouse pointer and I find precision selection on the iPad can be difficult.

Having a dog jump on you or knock your hand while using an iPad and select something that you did not intend to do is quite possible especially when sitting on your sofa leisurely looking at items with your dog nearby.

While clicking Buy and then confirm Buy twice would be highly improbable even with an iPad, it is possible if a dog needs attention and is persistent in trying to get your attention you could make multiple selections on the iPad without your control. Especially if you are distracted and are trying to not drop the iPad on the floor at the time.

Given the number of iPad users buying on eBay and the number of dogs, the random chance of this happening is quite plausible in my opinion.

Sorry that happened to you Msmaggie, it is so frustrating. My latest frustration you can see on my feedbacks. A neutral, not too bad, but the 1's for my dsr's hurt, especially when the buyer agreed that she didn't read the listing and said she didn't want me to refund her payment.

If you check my listing, I think you have to agree that there is no way someone could think that I was selling a shirt!!

Yes, very frustrating triber! Someone has dinged my stars for communication and shipping costs too. I always communicate and thank my buyers for their payment and let them know I shipped and when to expect item (just 1 email) and never charge even a penny more than it costs to ship (sometimes less).  Trouble is, sales haven't been anything like they were last year for me, so one person can really hurt my stars. Still have my TRS though.

Sorry to hear this is happening to you.I've had few of these recently too.

It's very frustrating as to how many people have a 4year old who went on a buying spree 😉

@ msmaggie - I know how you feel - I think this person also told the teacher that the dog ate their homework! What burns me up - is that as a seller - we have no way to defend ourselves - and we are not allowed to leave HONEST FEEDBACK (negatives for the idjuts that do these fantasy shopping sprees).

I think next time (AND YOU KNOW THERE WILL BE A NEXT TIME!) you might have to get tough, REFUSE to let them off the hook and just file a NON PAYING BIDDER - then at least you get to relist and save money.

Ok... it is very possible to hit things on touch screens any cell or ipad by mistake I have accidentally deleted apps like that and it was not my fault. HOWEVER... I am fed up of non paying bidders as well.

The new Ebay... forces you to add BUY IT NOW and pay for that to have IMMEDIATE payment after an auction. Sadly,

when I have an auction style listing, without buy it now... I can no longer accept like everyone else IMMEDIATE payment so it's a free for all for the bidders.. they are not obligated to follow through. EBAY please, things like this create headaches for everyone and more work for ebay refunding credits and so on.

It makes us lose money. Being stricter will make ebay a more serious venue for selling because lately it's not feeling the excitement I did when I first started selling not to mention not so much sales either since THEY ALSO CHANGED how your listings appear and so no one finds it unless its been viewed 1000 times and purchased many times over.

I don't wake up excited in the morning to go to my ebay anymore. Even listings... I have lost about 15 listing due to relisting problems over time... there has to be a better way to manage things.
