Hope someone understands and can explain the current tracking system.
Here is my case:
I have purchased something in Russia (not through eBay) and the item was mailed to me by registered AIRMAIL packet with proper code and sufficient tracking on Russian Posts' website.
After few days from the date of "parcel has left the RF" nothing appeared AT ALL on Canada Post tracking. I called them and was told that they no longer track packages of this side (up to 2 kg?) The person was not very clear on his definition of the packet's size.
Of course, I was kinda shocked considering that this is international mail and the sender shipped it as "tracked", therefore it should be "tracked" until it reaches the final destination.
But the best part is here: the parcel was delivered to me 2 days ago and I have signed the electronic box that postman was holding.
This means to me that there is a certain tracking. For whom?
I have attended the Canada Post website again hoping that at least now the record will appear. But there is NOTHING!
Why this tracking record is not available?
Thank you for clarification somebody can provide.

My own experience (although mostly stuff going outward) is that it is far more accurate and timely to check the other country's tracking system.
My experience with European countries including Russia is that checking their site is usually much quicker to log current status.(China as well)
It amazes me how many tracked items I've sent overseas that are never logged as delivered on the CP website, beyond leaving the country", however they are logged at their appropriate stops and as delivered on the other country's tracking system.... doesn't seem right given how much more we have to pay for the CP service!
(It is a pain checking on other sites like the Russian, Romanian etc as one has to guess where to put the item number to track, then guess which updates are the ones that are important! Thank goodness for google translate!)

Different countries' couriers (USPS, Canada Post, etc) do not work together to provide you with tracking info, even if you pay extra for tracking! I used to work for Canada Post and for Canadians, if you send something International Priority that no doubt comes with tracking, the tracking is only guaranteed within Canada. Once it crosses the border it's out of Canada Post's hands. You can try copying and pasting the same tracking number into the courier of the next country it's heading to, sometimes this works, but basically from my understanding, there is no guaranteed tracking once it's left its country of origin.
I've noticed from my own buying experiences that things from China etc, the tracking ends once they leave their country.
Kinda stupid, considering how expensive tracking is.
