Message from Paypal that they were holding payment 43.76, on an item sold yesterday, as they launch an investigation regarding an Unauthorized Payment.
The message mentioned Do Not Ship, a little late since the item shipped yesterday to Australia.
Checked the item sold, eBay address matches with the Paypal address.
Paypal particulars mention a different first name, surname is the same.
Does this happen often ?
I guess if Paypal finds this is an unauthorized payment i am out the product & the money.

Looks like maybe Junior used Daddy's credit card without permission.

Buyer has been on kind of a spending spree since joining
ebay 3 weeks ago.
Maybe a stolen CC

Only if you fail to provide proof of SHIPMENT, if you can provide proof of shipment (delivery not necessary) you win.
Of course most of the time these instant possible unauthorized payment situations resolve themselves. I've had a few and I've always gotten the all clear message but it does sometimes take a week or two.

No proof of shipment Recped, sent Small Packet Air.
Tracking would have been around 47.00.
Hopefully the hold is released.
Strange, Paypal & eBay addresses match, same surname, different first name.
Never seen this previously, maybe something i am missing.

I think Proof of shipment is the paypal small packet carbon copy and the Post Office recipt that shows you paid to mail it. The back of the carbon should be date stamped too. I think this proves you mailed it - Does it not?
I hope it all goes well for you - I will watch to see what comes of this - cause I use small packet all the time!

Sorry, Paypal will not accept a Date Stamped Small Packet Form & Postal Receipt.
Wish they did.
I hear you in that it proves the item was shippped, but there is no proof it arrived. This is where some unscrupulous buyers have us behind the eight ball.
Toby is right, the buyer has made a lot of purchases, but hopefully Recped is right in that the held funds will be released.
Time will tell.

You just need proof of shipment in this case but I realize that you don't have that either. I know that Paypal usually requires online confirmation but the last time I did have a chargeback, they told me that I could fax them any information I had about the transaction. I got the impression that I could fax them proof of shipment as well although I didn't have proof so I can't confirm that is what they meant.
About two or three times a year I get a message like the one you just got from Paypal and 99% of the time they let me know in a day or two that the payment was authorized and to go ahead and ship.

I have no problem waiting it out, just had never seen an Unauthorized Payment previously.
Funny though, got the message that an investigation was underway & to not ship the item, seventeen hours after the item was shipped.
In all fairness though, the item was shipped to Australia.
The so called unauthorized payment was probably not noticed until then by whoever made the call to Paypal.

Funny, canned message from Paypal this morning to respond to their message by the 14th.
Checked, I have nothing to respond to, Paypal mentions they are launching an investigation.
A good education for me. Will now understand this procedure when this happens again.
Hopefully it doesn't happen again.

It happened to me last year when a buyer filed a chargeback on his credit card claiming "unauthorized" payment, only to find out he filed too many chargeback with his credit card company. Needless to say I am lucky that PayPal didn't deduct over $150.00 from my account, otherwise I would be out of over $150.00 plus the valuable items that are worth over $ 500.00!
It seems now his credit card company is investigating this scammer. It is not just me, it is happening to the other sellers with the same pattern.
PayPal advised me to upgrade my profile and service that will protect the seller regardless of what including the chargebacks and I did it, it is free. Go for it, you have nothing to lose by upgrading as it is free with PayPal.
I suspect that we are going to see more and more scammers like this ones the upcoming months. I have to say that we should blame eBay for allowing those kind of people onboard in the first place. I read somewhere in the article that eBay is a haven for the scammers and we need to protect ourselves and PayPal and eBay should focus on that and to protect the sellers.
Needless to say, I felt that eBay and PayPal should take their responsibilities and waive us of any problems instead of passing the bucks to us when the problems like this arise.

Where do I find out about this service ? What is it called ? Thanks.

Upgrade to PayPal Business account from Premier Account but you still have benefits as Premier but with more benefits as Business account. Hope it helps?

Thanx Toby, just got that message.
I imagine they have burned a lot of sellers especially if they shipped before Paypal sent the warning.
Will call Paypal when i get a chance tommorow.
Who knows what will happen, but no tracking to Oz usually means an early Christmas gift.

Called Paypal yesterday & they took care of the situation.
Held payment was released back into my account within a couple of hours.
Though they could only comment on my held payment it seems the person that claimed Unauthorized Payment would not return email messages or phone calls originating from Paypal.
Probably why they are now NARU.
