Use eBay Feedback to Protect Yourself

So you thought eBay feedback works only against you. Not so.

The other day I was discussing with my fellow eBay seller (he is my competitor, supplier, friend too) about possiblity of writing an application (we are both programmers), that would scan feedback of predefined sellers and when some of them receives a negative, the customer ID would be automatically added to the blocked bidders list.

While there is no such software, it's easy to scan the top 10 competitors and do this manually. With the current craze about ratings, customers should think three times about leaving a neg since they may find themselves not be able to buy anything anymore.

eBay has created this system and as usual it's artificial feedback system with built-in intimidation and we (sellers) are adapting and laughing. Once again, we win, eBay looses.

Ok, ok, according to theory that eBay wins when we win and looses when we loose - my last statement is wrong. eBay actually needs a happy buyer instead of picky thrift seeker buying Yugo expecting Ferrari.

I received 2 neg's on my 2nd user id a few months ago after the buyer, who is also a seller, received 2 neg's from two different customers. She obviously had a chip on her shoulder and had been a royal pain in the butt. I had previously contacted eBay telling them that she was trouble and I was correct.

It did come back to haunt her because I blocked her under WSG. About a month ago she contacted me to ask why she couldn't buy from me. I told her that she should be very careful about leaving undeserved neg's because I watch my competitors and block anyone that I perceive has done so.

I have to say it felt really good!

I think you could program toolhaus.org searches to do this semi-automatically.

Your system, though, assumes that the top 10 sellers are good at their jobs so, by inference, the negative-leaving buyers are just problem-children.

An interesting idea.
