Went out last night for my birthday and came home to see....

My first negative Smiley Sad

Sigh

The buyer had sent a message complaining that a pendant he had bought got damaged very easily then 2 minutes later he left the negative...the first feedback he's ever left.  Sheesh.

I've sold a couple dozen of those pendants and have never had anyone complain about them. He didn't say how or in what way it was damaged and I haven't written back yet as I figured that it was better to wait. I'm not sure what I want to do or say.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Happy Belated Birthday ...

I am not a pro but I have bought my wife and I enough bling to know that pieces like that are cheaply made but that has nothing to do with you .. If your paying $50 and change for a Pendant and a chain it is because it is cheaply made why would anyone expect it to be high quality is beyond me ..

Sorry about the luck ... i myself have had some bad luck as well with feedback lately .

Thank you.

You've really had some rotten luck. I bet it is very frustrating.

I still haven't found out how it got damaged or what the damage is but this particular piece is fairly solid so his comments took me by surprise. I can understand why someone would be upset if they had a product for just a few days and there was a problem with it through no fault of their own. If it got scratched or the chain broke because someone was being rough with it, then that could happen to even an expensive piece of jewerly. Oh well...I guess speculation doesn't do any good.

Thanks ricarmic for the message outline..you do have a knack with that.

Thank you Rose and to everyone else for your comments and insight.

I am usually pretty quick with offers of a refund when there is a problem with an item as that is my responsibility but I'm having a tough time with one because I have a feeling it is a lose/lose situation. I suppose he could surprise me and be so happy with a refund that he would be happy to revise my feedback. But I noticed last night that he left 3 1's and would probably have left 4 if shipping hadn't been an automatic 5. The item was as described when he received it although I can sort of understand the 1 in description but 1's in shipping time and communication is just being vindicative imo.

Hi Again!

The results from this paticular buyer you are probably going to be stuck with.....

The only reason I'd still suggest at least responding to the feedback is that, at least myself whenever I am going to buy something, I check how the seller reacts to negs and neutrals. If I see professional, "non-violent" comments from the seller in response to them, then I know I can likely count on the seller if I encounter problems myself. (I very much recommend never using the word "you" in the feedback response)

Another way of saying this is to think less about this buyer, but think of what you can do in terms of your visible response to convince other buyers if there are problems with their stuff that you are there for them....(note that it is possible that this buyer will respond to your feedback which is another risk)... that's why I like the words "I will contact the buyer to try to rectify".....shows you are willing to try....

Unfortunately there is no way to know how it will work out ahead of time....we all have our battle scars (my last neg was revised to be worse than the original, long story to that one!) from situations that didn't work out as we'd hoped...hopefully yours will take a turn for the better!

Hang in there!!!
