Who has sold to customers in Russia?

Hi Guys,

I have received an order from a buyer in Russia.  My listing did not include Russia as a country that I sell to.

Is it safe to sell there if I use Canada Post Tracking Small Parcel shipping.  I have a rate from CP for 100 gms  at $49.48 tax in.

I haven't presented this to the buyer.  The item is only worth $60.  He has requested tracked shipping.  He is an international buyer with about 30 eBay feedbacks 100% positive.

I guess my question is ---- will I be covered with pay pal guarantee?

Canada Post has temporarily suspended acceptance of non-document shipments via Priority Worldwide destined for the Russian Federation.

Non-document with tracking:

International Parcel -- sounds like you got a surface quote which is way too slow. Air adds another $20 to the cost.

Document only:

Registered mail is available for less than $30

I assume you mean Tracked Packet (Small Packet doesn't have tracking or insurance).

Safe? I suspect that depends on what you are selling.

Last thing I shipped to Russia was a small Canadian painting. It arrived okay (but I did have some worries).

Your main protection is the Canada Post insurance. The paypal protection (such as it is) should also be valid.

...

Did you have shipping to Europe turned on? Russia is part of both Europe and Asia.

There are also third party insurers. Shipinsure may be the name of one that has been mentioned favourably here.

I have sold to the former Soviet Union, mostly copies of Roberts Rules of Order for some reason, with no problems. But not to Russia proper.

You sell coins.

Quite a different story than books or stamps.

What guarantee is that?  For sellers, I didn't think there was one.   🙂

Nothing on earth will protect a seller from a SNAD claim (not as described) but if you have tracking that shows DELIVERED then that is usually enough to get you out of any INR (not received) claim.

I have not yet sent anything to Russia but others who do say they have no problems.  The postal system can be slow (like everywhere these days) but if you use tracking it will show where the delay is, like in Customs.

You have not specifically blocked Russia (and other countries) so just saying the countries you DO ship to won't prevent someone from Nigeria buying your items.  Or trying to.

Feedback on a buyer (100%) doesn't show if the person is good or bad because buyers can only receive positives. Yours is probably OK because they actually asked for tracking.  The scammers are the ones who try to trick you into not using it.

Make sure what you are mailing is allowable into the country.  If it is something like a gold-plated silver coin, you might consider putting "souvenir token" or something bland like that on the customs label.  In Russia a Canadian coin would be a souvenir token since it can't be spent as money.  You need to be honest on the customs form without saying anything that will tempt thieves.

Once you tell the buyer the shipping fee the whole issue may vanish when they want to cancel, but maybe not.  You can always show them the link to Canada Post with the dimensions to prove it.  Fancy coins are a luxury item of the highest degree so the buyer might be happy to pay right away.  Lots of people in the world have an abundance of spending money.

Re: Who has sold to customers in Russia?

There is no 'Tracked Packet' to Russia.

You will have to use International Parcel Air.

It is tracked but has no signature. International Parcel Surface is too slow, you'll lose an INR if you attempt that. But I think that's the price you quoted in your post. DO NOT DO IT.

Assuming you are mailing a 100 g parcel (as opposed to envelope under 2 cm) with random size 22 x 17 x 9 this is the cost to quote your buyer:

International Parcel - Air - $75.42

Options
Mailing Tube$1.50

*Coverage Details:Up to $100.00 included.Maximum $1,000.00 @ $2.25 per $100.00.
Please note:
These prices are estimates and subject to adjustment by Canada Post.
Limitations to size, weight and coverage vary for international destinations (See Postal Guide).
Pickup is available in your area if you are a business customer. - Request a pickup.

Rate Summary
Regular price$69.03

Fuel Surcharge$6.39
Tax$0.00
Total$75.42

Re: Who has sold to customers in Russia?

I called Canada Post and received the info provided. There is a Tracked packet to Russia that is not International Air. She gave me the amount you quote but I immediately requested the least expensive and this is what I was quoted $49.48 HSTI

It's not on the CPC website as an option. I might be skeptical of what they tell you over the phone; how will you print that label?

Good job, 'mjwl', it never occurred to me to try it. 🙂

Have you sent anything to Russia? How did it all turn out? Postal speed? Efficiency?

Toys might be different from gold-plated silver coins, but did you get it tracked?

Re: Who has sold to customers in Russia?

Using those measurements (I went 200g) I get Small Packet Air for $12.52. No tracking, but cheap. And air mail.

Or have I flubbed that up somehow? I got Small Packet Surface for $8.89 but as you say, too slow (2 months!).

Re: Who has sold to customers in Russia?

It might be right, I don't know since I've never sold to Russia. I can't claim any experience there.

The OP is looking for tracked service.

I think he was quoted a price over the phone for International Surface Parcel and is getting the words 'parcel' and 'packet' confused. Which is easily done.

There is NO International Tracked Packet to Russia. Canada Post does not offer it. And a quote for International Parcel (Surface) might have tracking but the seller will lose an INR without question because it takes months to reach its destination.

International Parcel (as opposed to International Packet) comes in Surface and Air for Russia. The cheapest tracked airmail is International Parcel Air. The cheapest tracked is International Parcel (Surface). The cheapest Airmail would be Small Packets but it is not tracked.

Re: Who has sold to customers in Russia?

There is something I'm not seeing. I can't see where the $75 one (Internat'l Parcel Air) has tracking. I'm not counting the scan that shows it was mailed that we get at the counter. The ONLY one I see that has tracking (aka Delivery Confirmation) is the really expensive one, the $100 one on the bottom. The buyer might pay that anyway but if it were me I'd faint.
What am I missing, or HOW did I miss it?

Re: Who has sold to customers in Russia?

I can't post a screenshot because it's a Question as opposed to Discussion but the price the OP was quoted is exactly the amount for International Parcel SURFACE for an envelope under 100g. So.....

Re: Who has sold to customers in Russia?

That's signature included. I don't know why it doesn't show the Air Parcels are tracked but they've always been.

And when did the Solutions For Small business rate for Tracked Packet through Canada Post drop below the discount we get via PayPal through eBay?! I did UK and its $28.60 as opposed to $40 at counter. That's major. Like a major change.

Re: Who has sold to customers in Russia?

You're right though. There's nothing on either International Parcel Air or International Parcel Surface that indicates either one is tracked. Very suspicious. I'm using a mobile device and the CPC app for iPhone, do you see different on the desktop website?

When I used your dimensions, did it like this, I got 5 choices when I click the Calculate Rate button.  What do you get?

It's a 2-step process. Or should I say a 2-step nuisance! You first write your comment and click to post it, THEN afterward you can use the drop-down menu to edit it.
In 'edit mode' you can do all the fancy stuff like regular, post links, pics, etc.

Too bad the Ans Ctr can't have a format like the Disc Bds. A lot more fun. 😞

I probably get the same five as you do. What I cannot do for the life of me is add it as a screenshot, even from my desktop. Thanks!

International Parcel (Surface) and International Parcel Air *must* still be tracked since they offer insurance coverage both $100 included and up to a certain amount optional, and Canada Post only offers insurance coverage on parcels they can track since early 2013.
