In looking at the ebay policies, I do not understand why EBAY wants us to NOT communicate with buyers?
Can anyone explain this?
As a courtesy I have always emailed my buyer as soon as I have mailed their item.
If this is not the norm - why?

@art-in-the-making - Thank you for the most thoughtful and logical explanation. Your reply makes the most sense. I think you must be correct - This shift is not good for the Buyer or the Small seller. The poor service from all the big businesses is a trend, leaves me wondering where this will end?

@cumos55-
Good communication can cure many possible ills.
I agree totaly with treating the customer with this respect, but the Question I was asking is WHY as a corporation Ebay would go in this direction.
art-in-the-making has had the most logical reply to this customer.

Or...
Is it an understanding that if buyer and seller do not communicate, how can a buyer leave anything other than a rating of 5.
Similarly if a buyer does not leave feedback and ratings then ratings are considered to be a 5
It should be noted that on eBay.com a buyer must communicate with a seller before a dispute ..for
--- not as described, or
--- not received
is initiated....
Communication and any other business practice will always be at the discretion of the seller....

In each of the following situations, the only rating a buyer should leave is dictated by eBay.
(1) Free shipping... There is no cost for shipping indicated.... Buyer cannot rate for Shipping and handling if shipping and handling is not know by the buyer.
(2) Seller mails the purchase within the stated handling time.... Buyer in turn cannot then rate the seller on the basis that the parcel was caught up in the postal system or in customs
(3) If buyer and seller do not communicate... then ...how can a buyer be allowed to rate the seller.... with a rating other than 5
eBay does not allow for anything other than a 5 if the seller meets specific criteria where the buyer has no reason other than to leave a rating of 5.
This approach protects all sellers from unmerited low ratings...
There is no special deals ... just a measure of acceptable logic practiced by eBay.
