eBay Launches International Classifieds Websites

We would like to announce our launch of online classifieds Web sites in select international markets. Launched under the brand Kijiji, which means “village” in Swahili, the Web sites offer people in the same city a convenient way to meet, have fun, share ideas, and trade various goods and services.

Kijiji is now available in more than 50 cities in Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan. In Canada, Kijiji is available in French only in Montreal and Quebec City. From building friendships and trading large appliances to talking about the city’s best restaurants or looking for a babysitter, Kijiji is designed to help people connect.

We encourage you to visit the Kijiji site, post a classified, and tell us what your experience has been. Is it easy to use? Do you like the site? Would you use Kijiji?

Kijiji

eBay Pink, Kitty will be reading this thread and answering your questions.

Regards,
Carly

It looks like a worthy competitor for Craigslist. I heard about it before through Google, I never knew eBay ran it. They should really put a banner or button link to it, instead of having a text link crammed at the bottom where hardly anyone would see it.

I like Kijiji and used it to look for furniture mainly.
Having the link crammed at the bootom of the page is better then now I guess. Now I cannot find any link at all??
Help; where to find it now??

They starting to hide it on us a few days ago. Ebay must have realized how much business they are losing to kijiji. Just type kijiji into your search engine and then bookmark it as one of your favourites as there doesn't seem to be a link to it from ebay.ca anymore.

I love it! I have bought 6 things from kijiji. I have a question though.... why can't I search Canada wide? Why do I have to keep switching cities to look at several around my location. Any help is appreciated.

Kijiji stands for small village. It's meant to be a local selling board for people in your area. Most people buy locally and then pick the item up rather than having it shipped.

Yes I understand that but 'local' is too small in many areas. There are alot of things that people will travel to get ex: boat, furniture, vehicle...

The site is full of store type items and very few regular people post things for sale or to give away. Too much advertizing. At least on the Canadian site in Vancouver is what I find. Craig's List is far superior.

Kijiji is nothing more then a JOKE. MOST of the employees (not all) do what they want. Delete peoples ads for NO reason. Fix the problem then create another. They remove you from the Forums if you speak out and say that your dissatisfied. Where is FREE speech.. Then you have employees like Jean Luc that lie to you and say your doing something that your not.. so then you prove it and what does he do?? comes up with at least 5 other excuses why you cannot post. Ebay needs to look into what is going on there.. I really think they need to clean house. Some of these employees are nothing less then MONKEYS with NO CLUE! (As I said before they are NOT all bad..) there is just a few bad termites in the wood that need to be weeded out. BTW my nick on Kijiji was oldstuff1967

Kijiji is a joke - so glitchy & virtually useless.
On Vancouver Island we've got a wonderful site with Used Victoria. Anything we've got to sell goes on there. Hardly ever bother with Ebay anymore and definitely give Kijiji a big miss. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I used Kijiji in Ontario where I live and have found it to be great for both buying and selling. And I've not noticed any annoying ads. Have done very well advertising for my garage sales and have sold more clothing there than I ever could on ebay.

Personally I have a bad taste in my mouth from KIJIJI. Its has no CUSTOMER SERVICE what-so-ever. One employee knows nothing more then how to lie (and they certainly don't do it very well)Jean Luc. They delete peoples ads for no reason. The site is run poorly and you would think that MORE then one employee would be a good one or at least the one running the show would take charge and do something about the injustice that is going on. When you go into their discussion groups (after contacting them through the contact button and getting ignored for weeks on end) and say something your banned so your NOT entitled to an opinion. They can do what they want when they want. Kijiji is nothing more then a hunk of trash (in my opinion) with alot of idiot employees that don't know the first thing about customer service. I bet they just sit and play like god laughing at the people they tick off.. and you know why?? Because they can and they get away with it. We have a name for people like that "JERKS"!!!

Hi Kitty,

I have a question regarding purchase on Kijiji. The buyer wants to sell through a payment set up on ebay and he has emailed me that just bacause kijiji belongs to ebay hence he can set up payment transfer and item delivery done through ebay even while we contacted through kijiji.

IS IT POSSIBLE? I need to understand how authentic is the process as I want to make sure its not a fraud as he is offering me a real deal on the product I want to buy.

I am frusterated that kijji doesn't reply back to me. My listings were deleted and I have no clue WHY? They gave me a list of 50 things it could be but how am I suppose to know since I can't figure out what it possibly could have been and they don't reply. PLUS they won't allow me to put in any more adds. Is this intentional? I truly don't understand what's going on and I have no other way of contacting them. If you could help me out with this I would sure appreciate it. Sincerely Dawnys Tallen

What were you selling? I've had a couple of ads deleted over the last 2 years for stupid reasons. One was a canvas bag because it had the Bell ExpressVu logo on it. I relisted without mentioning the logo name. The other was a piece of pottery that someone felt was a reproduction. Again I just relisted saying it might be a reproduction.
